All Legendary Lord Defeat Traits
Hey! Grab a coffee (or, you know, something stronger after all that campaign strategizing), let's talk Legendary Lord defeat traits. You ever notice how sometimes, wiping the floor with a rival LL gives you a sweet bonus? Yeah, those are defeat traits! Some are AMAZING, some... well, some make you wonder if the dead LL was actually playing 4D chess and punking you from beyond the grave.
Basically, when you, the glorious conqueror, utterly crush a Legendary Lord and their faction is completely gone-poof-vanished- into the digital ether (okay, sometimes they respawn with a Rogue Army, but let’s ignore that for now), you snag a little something special. A reward, a souvenir, a "Hey, I just curb-stomped Archaon, and all I got was this lousy trait... which is actually pretty awesome!"
The Good Stuff - Traits Worth Fighting For
The Empire
Let’s start with the good ol’ Empire! Karl Franz's trait, 'Sigmar's Bulwark' gives +3 melee defense and +5 armor to all characters in the region that the LL was defeated in. A solid buff for your heroes and lords. Beating him up is like fortifying an entire province with the tears of Franz. Harsh, but effective, right?
Now, Balthasar Gelt, oh glorious golden boy! His trait, *'Superior Alloys'*, grants +10% income from all resource buildings factionwide. Gotta love the gold! Who knew defeating a metal-obsessed wizard would make you richer? I guess it's like taking all his research notes and turning them into cold, hard cash.
The Dwarfs
Short, stout, and REALLY good at holding grudges. Oh, and giving you neat traits if you can manage to beat them. Thorgrim Grudgebearer bestows 'Book of Grudges', giving +5 leadership to all armies factionwide. Hey, a little more morale never hurt anyone! Especially when you're facing down a tide of Greenskins or Skaven. I mean, who's NOT carrying a grudge these days?
And who could forget Grombrindal, the White Dwarf? Defeating him gives you 'Ancestral Wisdom', giving a whopping +10% research rate factionwide. Now that's some good old fashioned learning coming to ya! Perfect for teching up and leaving your enemies in the dust. Well, if dwarfs can move fast enough to actually *leave* anyone in the dust, that is…
Ungrim Ironfist gives 'Oath of the Slayers'. The bonuses are +3 melee attack to all units factionwide, and +5% weapon strength to slayer units. Makes your Slayers even more killy, and gives everyone else a little punch too. Sounds like the kind of thing you get for surviving a particularly intense karaoke night in a dwarven tavern.
Greenskins
WAAAAGH! Okay, gotta talk about the Greenskins. You beat Grimgor Ironhide and get 'Da Bestest!', giving +3 melee attack and +3 melee defense to all units factionwide. Simple, brutal, effective. Like getting a free injection of pure orcish aggression! Basically, you take his title and his fighting skills. Sounds fair.
And then there's Grom the Paunch! 'Grom's Lucky Banner' grants +10% campaign movement range factionwide. Which makes sense, because the lad's got a chariot with a massive banner. Finally, you can run away, er, I mean, *re-position* your troops faster!
High Elves
Elegance, skill, and... defeat traits? Tyrion's 'Defender of Ulthuan' gives +10% income from trade agreements factionwide. Now THAT is a profitable beating. Basically, you're cashing in on his good name.
Teclis offers 'Lore of Hoeth', granting +2 starting rank for mages and +5% miscast chance reduction for all wizards factionwide. Less exploding wizards? Yes, please! Makes you feel smarter just by association.
Dark Elves
Oh, the edgy elves. Malekith's defeat trait, 'Naggarond's Might' gives +5% to slaves factionwide. What do you do with that trait? More slaves! That's Dark Elves for ya. What a guy.
Morathi gives 'Cult of Pleasure'. Bonuses are -10% hero action cost factionwide, and +3 public order to all provinces. Which means the people are marginally happier and your heroes are more efficient at stabbing each other in the back. That's efficient management!
Lizardmen
Scaly boys with ancient tech! Defeating Mazdamundi rewards you with 'Great Plan', which gives +5% casualty replenishment rate factionwide and +1 hero capacity. Gotta get those lizards back on their feet, pronto!
Kroq-Gar gives 'Vanguard Deployment', which gives +10% melee weapon damage for saurus and temple guard units factionwide. Now that's how you empower the troops! If you needed a reason to bring a Saurus with a club to a gunfight, this is it.
Skaven
Yes-yes, more cheese for the Horned Rat! Queek Headtaker's 'Headtaker's Hoard' grants +5 melee attack to all units factionwide. Simple, effective, Skaven-y. It's like Queek's anger is permanently fueling your troops.
Lord Skrolk offers 'Plague Furnace', giving +5% plague duration and +10% plague spread chance factionwide. Spreading disease? That's the Skaven way! It’s all fun and games until your own settlements catch the plague... Wait, that's *still* fun!
Vampire Counts
Time for some spooky stuff! Mannfred von Carstein gives 'Scheming Aristorcracy', granting +3 winds of magic capacity. Now, who doesn't love more magic?
And then there's Vlad von Carstein. 'Crimson Vow' gives +5 leadership to all units factionwide, and +5% weapon strength to vampire units. So everyone is a little braver, and your vampires are even scarier. Sounds like a win-win, if you're into that whole undead thing.
Bretonnia
For ze Lady! Louen Leoncoeur gives 'Blessing of the Lady'. All units in the region in which the LL was defeated get +3 leadership, and +5 armor. Good for defense and holding ground.
Alberic de Bordeleaux gives 'Seafaring Tradition', granting +10% trade income from sea regions factionwide. Suddenly, naval battles are worth fighting for! It's the Bretonnian equivalent of finding a gold mine. In the ocean.
Wood Elves
Elves, but make it nature! Orion gives 'Wild Hunt', granting +10% campaign movement range for armies in forest terrain factionwide. Now you can be annoying EVERYWHERE in the forests. The spirit of guerilla warfare is strong with this one.
Durthu gives 'Wrath of the Forest', granting +5 melee attack to all units factionwide, and +5% missile damage to treekin units. Angry trees doing more damage? Sounds about right.
Norsca
Vikings with monsters! Wulfrik the Wanderer bestows 'Favoured of the Gods', granting +5% research rate factionwide, and +1 hero recruitment capacity. What's better than a single viking raiding party? A whole army of vikings!
Throgg gives 'King of the Trolls', granting +10% casualty replenishment rate for troll units factionwide. So your trolls regenerate faster after getting stomped by dwarves. Perfectly balanced.
Beastmen
Gore-soaked goats, anyone? Khazrak One-Eye's 'Eye of Dominance' grants +5% ambush success chance factionwide. Because ambushing people is ALWAYS a good idea if you are a beastman.
Malagor the Dark Omen offers 'Dark Omens', granting +3 public order to all provinces factionwide. Not something you typically associate with beastmen, right? Maybe he was just tired of all the rioting.
Tomb Kings
Skeletons! Settra the Imperishable gives 'Eternal Legion', granting +3 melee attack and +3 melee defense to all units factionwide. Undead buffs never hurt anyone. Well, except for the living.
Khalida gives 'Serpent Queen', granting +5 leadership to all units factionwide and +5% missile damage to archer units. Makes your archers more accurate AND increases morale. That's some great encouragement!
Vampire Coast
Pirates, but undead! Luthor Harkon gives 'Madcap Mutiny', granting +5 leadership to all units factionwide, and +5 melee attack to zombie units. So even zombies are slightly more competent, which says a lot.
Count Noctilus gives 'Terror of the Deep', granting +10% income from pirate coves factionwide. Time to build those coves and get RICH! Arrrr, matey!
Chaos
Time for the big bads of the north! Archaon the Everchosen gives 'Chosen of Chaos', granting +5 armor and +5 leadership to all units factionwide. Turns out, having the favor of the Chaos Gods actually helps. Who knew?
Kholek Suneater gives 'Dragon Ogor Lord', granting +10% melee weapon damage to dragon ogor units. Buffs for your dragon ogors. As if they needed MORE damage!
Miscellaneous
And for the last few stand-alone LL factions:
Markus Wulfhart (Huntsmarshal Expedition) gives 'Huntsmarshal's Authority', which grants +3 melee attack to all units factionwide, and +5% missile damage to hunter units. Because nothing says "The Empire Strikes Back" like a well-placed volley of arrows.
Repanse de Lyonesse (Chevaliers de Lyonesse) gives 'The Maid of Orléans', which grants +5% casualty replenishment rate factionwide, and +5 leadership to all peasant units. Now that's how you inspire the common folk! Now the peasants can go die with a little more dignity!
Ikit Claw (Clan Skryre) gives 'Warpstone Arsenal' which grants -10% cost to construct warplock workshop buildings and +5% ammo to all units factionwide. If you are playing ikit, you will probably want him down ASAP.
Rakarth (Beasts of Chaos) gives 'Beastlord of Karond Kar' which grants +20% bonus to slaves factionwide and +2 hero capacity. Who knew monster tamers were also good at slavery?
So, What Does It All Mean?
Ultimately, these defeat traits add another layer to your campaign strategy. Do you focus on eliminating certain Legendary Lords first to snag their sweet bonuses? Do you rush Grimgor for that extra melee attack? Or prioritize Teclis to get your wizards up to speed faster? The choice is yours, commander!
And let's be honest, it's just plain satisfying to know you're getting a little something extra for your hard-fought victories. A little pat on the back from the game itself, saying, "Good job, you obliterated a major faction! Here's a slightly-better-than-average perk to show our appreciation." Now go forth, conquer, and collect those traits!
