Anime Similar To My Happy Marriage

Okay, so you're obsessed with My Happy Marriage, right? I totally get it. The slow-burn romance? The historical setting? The hint of the supernatural? It’s all just chef's kiss. But what do you watch after you’ve mainlined every episode? Don't worry, I've got your back. Grab another cup of coffee, and let’s dive into some anime that might just fill that Miyo-shaped hole in your heart.
For the Slow-Burn Romance Fanatics
First up, we HAVE to talk about Snow White with the Red Hair. A strong, independent heroine? Check. A handsome, slightly aloof prince? Double check. Political intrigue? You betcha! Shirayuki, our red-haired protagonist, flees her kingdom and ends up catching the eye of Prince Zen. It’s a gentler, more fairytale-esque vibe than My Happy Marriage, but the slow, sweet development of their relationship is pure gold. Plus, Zen is voiced by Ryota Osaka, the same VA for Kiyoka?! Coincidence? I think NOT.
Then there’s Yona of the Dawn. Alright, this one starts off a little... rough. Yona, a pampered princess, has her whole world turned upside down. But! She becomes a total badass, travels the land gathering dragon warriors, and discovers her inner strength. There is some romance sprinkled in, but it's mostly about her personal growth and the amazing group of friends she makes. Trust me, the feels are REAL with this one.
Must Read
And let's not forget Kamisama Kiss. What if you suddenly became a land god... and your new familiar was a ridiculously handsome fox spirit? That’s Nanami’s life now! This anime is full of fluff, humor, and just enough drama to keep things interesting. Tomoe, the fox familiar, is initially super grumpy, but you know he secretly adores Nanami. I mean, who wouldn't?
If You're Here for the Supernatural Vibe
Okay, if you like the whole psychic powers/otherworldly beings element, then prepare to be amazed by Natsume's Book of Friends. It's less romance, more wholesome goodness, but the atmosphere is perfect. Natsume can see spirits, and he’s inherited a book that allows him to return their names. Get ready for heartwarming stories, beautiful animation, and the adorable (and sometimes terrifying) spirit Nyanko-sensei. Seriously, who doesn’t love a sassy, sake-loving cat spirit?

For something with a bit more action, try Beyond the Boundary. Mirai Kuriyama is a spirit world warrior with the ability to manipulate her blood into weapons. Intense, right? She meets Akihito Kanbara, a half-youmu (supernatural being) who can't be killed. It’s a visually stunning series with some seriously cool fight scenes and a healthy dose of angst. Are you intrigued yet?
Historical Settings & Arranged Marriages? We Got You.
While not exactly identical to My Happy Marriage, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits has a similar flavor. Aoi inherits her grandfather's debt to a demon lord and must work off that debt in his inn located in the hidden realm. Yeah, there's an arranged marriage proposal in there, too! Think beautiful food, interesting characters, and a charming fantasy world. What's not to love?

One more (okay, maybe two!) for the road? Check out Saiunkoku Monogatari (long title, I know!). Shouka Hong gets involved with the imperial court in order to earn money for her family. She then becomes the first woman to take the imperial examinations. The art style might be a bit older, but it's a charming series, with beautiful character designs and compelling storyline!
So there you have it! A few suggestions to keep you occupied until My Happy Marriage returns for another season (please, anime gods!). Of course, there are tons of other anime out there, but hopefully, this gives you a good starting point. Happy watching!
