Father I Don't Want To Get Married Ch 1

Okay, so picture this: your grandma corners you at Thanksgiving, casserole in hand, eyes twinkling with mischief. "So, sweetheart," she coos, "any prospects?" You choke on your cranberry sauce. We've all been there, right? The pressure to find "the one," settle down, and pop out a few mini-mes can be… intense. And sometimes, it feels like everyone else has a script for your life, but you're just trying to improv your way through it.
Which brings me to the first chapter of a manhwa (Korean comic) called Father, I Don't Want to Get Married! or, as I like to call it, "The Ultimate Guide to Avoiding Arranged Marriages (Probably)."
A Quick Intro to the Chaos
The premise is simple, yet utterly compelling. Our protagonist is Jubelian Eloy Floyen, a young woman whose life is about to be turned upside down by… well, you guessed it, her father. He's not just any dad; he's the archmage himself, Claude Floyen, a man whose eyebrows could probably melt glaciers with a single, withering glance. Seriously, he's intimidating.
Must Read
Claude, in his infinite wisdom (or lack thereof), decides Jubelian needs to be married off. And not just to anyone, mind you. He's got a whole list of potential suitors, each more unsuitable than the last. We're talking princes with questionable hygiene, dukes with a penchant for tax evasion, and probably a rogue wizard or two thrown in for good measure. (Okay, I might be exaggerating about the wizard, but you get the point.)
The Prophecy Problem
But wait, there's more! (Cue dramatic music). Jubelian isn't just rebelling against her father's matchmaking. She's also armed with a prophecy that basically says if she does get married, the entire kingdom is doomed. Talk about high stakes! So, her reluctance to walk down the aisle isn't just about personal preference; it's about saving the world. No pressure, right?

I mean, think about it. Your dad's trying to marry you off to some dude you barely know, and the fate of the entire realm hangs in the balance. Thanksgiving with Grandma suddenly seems a lot less stressful, doesn't it?
Jubelian: Not Your Damsel in Distress
What I really loved about the first chapter is that Jubelian isn't portrayed as some helpless damsel waiting for a knight in shining armor (or a divorce lawyer) to rescue her. She's proactive, intelligent, and determined to forge her own path. She understands that her father isn't necessarily acting out of malice (although his methods are questionable), but rather out of a twisted sense of duty or perhaps plain boredom.

And so, she starts to plan her escape (from marriage, not from home... yet). This is where the fun begins! She begins taking measures to evade each suitor, but not without a good degree of flair. This alone makes her such an enjoyable protagonist to get behind.
She's strategic, resourceful, and has a healthy dose of sass. I mean, come on, you have to admire a girl who can outsmart an archmage and dodge a marriage proposal all before lunch. She's a queen.

First Impressions: Hooked!
The first chapter of Father, I Don't Want to Get Married! does a great job of setting the stage for what promises to be a hilarious and engaging story. The art style is beautiful, the characters are intriguing, and the plot is full of potential. Most of all, Jubelian's personality sells the whole story.
It's a fun twist on the classic arranged marriage trope, with a strong female lead, a dash of fantasy, and a whole lot of heart. If you're looking for a lighthearted read that will make you laugh, cringe, and cheer all at the same time, then I highly recommend checking it out.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go practice my "accidental" fainting spell in case my own grandma starts asking about my relationship status again. Wish me luck!
