Long Live The King Light Novel Chapter 1

Long Live The King Light Novel Chapter 1

Okay, so picture this: I'm at a family gathering (the kind where your grandma pinches your cheeks and asks if you're dating anyone yet - *shudder*), and my cousin, bless his heart, is trying to explain Bitcoin to my grandpa. Grandpa, bless *his* heart, just stares blankly and says, "So...it's magic internet money?" That's pretty much how I felt starting "Long Live the King." Magic internet money, only with more swords and less blockchain. You get me?

What I mean is, you hear about a light novel being all the rage, especially one with a ridiculously cool title like "Long Live the King," and you expect...well, something epic. And while it is aiming for epic, the first chapter feels a bit like getting your bearings in a totally new and slightly overwhelming fantasy world. Let's dive in, shall we? Because honestly, first impressions matter, even if they’re a little… chaotic.

The Isekai Start - But Different?

So, we have our protagonist, Alexander. Right off the bat, you realize this isn’t your typical "truck-kun" isekai. (For those not in the know, that's the trope where someone gets hit by a truck and reincarnated in another world. Very popular, very overdone.) Instead, Alexander is already in a medieval-esque world. The twist? He's a prince. Now, being a prince sounds awesome, right? Think again. This ain't no Disney prince situation, people. This is more like… a prince who’s about to have a very, very bad day. Or several bad years. Or… basically, his whole life.

Specifically, he’s the Fourth Prince of the Chambord Kingdom, a kingdom described, shall we say, as “not doing so great.” Think of it like a fantasy version of a small, struggling European country with a really bad economy. The King, his dad, isn’t exactly winning any "Father of the Year" awards. In fact, he's pretty much apathetic, leaving the kingdom to rot while he focuses on… well, we don’t entirely know what he focuses on, but it's clearly not ruling. Probably hunting and feasting, if I had to guess. *Sigh*, some leaders, am I right?

A Prince with a Problem

Here's the kicker: Alexander is basically the kingdom’s whipping boy. He’s not the favorite, not the strongest, not the smartest. He’s… there. And everyone kind of ignores him. Except when they need someone to blame, of course. Sound familiar to anyone else's family dynamic? (Don’t worry, your secrets are safe with me… and the internet.)

So, what's his big problem? Well, his father, in a move that can only be described as utterly brutal (even for a fantasy king), basically throws him under the bus. He sends Alexander to a backwater, super-small town called… *sigh*… Chambord City. Yep, the city is named after the kingdom. Creative, I know. It’s basically a garbage dump of a place, filled with bandits, refugees, and general despair. Think of it as the medieval equivalent of Detroit, but with more swords and fewer cars. Oh, and Alexander is appointed the lord of this… delightful… location.

Essentially, the king is like, "Hey son, I don't want to deal with this mess. Here, *you* deal with it. Good luck, and try not to die. Also, don’t come crying to me when you fail." Harsh, right? I mean, seriously, who does that to their kid? Okay, maybe I shouldn't answer that. My own dad once tried to teach me how to drive in a parking lot filled with shopping carts. Similar levels of parental responsibility, I suppose.

The City of Despair – Chambord

Chambord City is described in vivid, depressing detail. It's basically a ruin. Crime is rampant, the infrastructure is crumbling, and the people are starving. It’s the kind of place where hope goes to die. Alexander arrives, expecting maybe a *slightly* less awful situation, and is immediately greeted by… well, basically nothing. No welcoming committee, no cheering crowds, just a bunch of dirty, suspicious people looking at him like he’s the guy who just kicked their dog.

Here are some of the highlights of Chambord City:

  • Dilapidated buildings.
  • Streets filled with garbage and… other unpleasant things.
  • Starving refugees begging for food.
  • Bandits lurking in the shadows.
  • A general sense of hopelessness.

Sounds like a lovely vacation spot, doesn't it? Alexander's clearly thinking, "What have I gotten myself into?" And the answer is, "A whole lot of trouble."

The Initial Challenges

Alexander is immediately faced with a mountain of problems. He has no money, no resources, and no support. The existing officials in Chambord City are either corrupt, incompetent, or actively plotting against him. (Or all three, because why not?) Basically, he's starting from scratch, in the worst possible location, with the worst possible odds.

One of the key challenges introduced is the severe lack of food. The harvest failed, and the people are starving. This creates a sense of urgency and sets the stage for Alexander's first major test: figuring out how to feed his people. Because, you know, if your subjects are all dead, ruling becomes rather difficult. (Unless you're ruling over zombies. But that's a different novel.)

The "Golden Finger" – A Glimmer of Hope

Okay, so here's where things get interesting. Alexander isn't just some random, useless prince. He has a secret weapon. A "golden finger," as the light novel community likes to call it. (Basically, a cheat code, a superpower, something that gives him an unfair advantage.) In Alexander's case, it’s his ability to… *drumroll please* … use the Diablo 2 skill tree! (Yes, THAT Diablo 2.)

For those who haven't played Diablo 2 (seriously, go play it!), it's a classic action RPG with a skill tree system. You earn experience points, level up, and then allocate skill points to various abilities. It’s super addictive and allows you to customize your character to your liking. Now, imagine having that ability in real life. Pretty cool, right? Think of all the stuff you could learn! I mean, I'd probably max out my cooking skills first. Just saying.

So, Alexander can access the Diablo 2 skill tree, and he can use it to learn new skills and abilities. This is his key to survival, his key to turning Chambord City around, and his key to proving everyone wrong. It’s his *get out of jail free* card, except the jail is a crumbling city filled with bandits and despair.

First Skill: Pray

The first skill Alexander chooses is… *wait for it* … Pray. Yes, you read that right. Pray. Not some flashy offensive spell, not some powerful combat ability, but Pray. Now, some readers might be thinking, "Lame! Why would you choose that?" But hear me out. Pray gives Alexander the ability to slowly regenerate his stamina and mana. It’s not a game-changer, but it's a start. It provides a foundation for him to learn more powerful skills later on.

It's also symbolic. Alexander is in a desperate situation, and Pray represents his hope, his determination to overcome the odds. It shows that he's not giving up, even when things look bleak. Plus, you know, free stamina is never a bad thing when you’re about to face a horde of angry villagers demanding food. *Just saying.*

Initial Impression: Promising, But Needs More Oomph

Overall, the first chapter of "Long Live the King" is… okay. It sets the stage, introduces the protagonist, establishes the setting, and hints at the main conflict. It's like the foundation of a building. It’s necessary, but it’s not exactly the most exciting part. You know?

The potential is definitely there. The premise is intriguing, the "golden finger" is unique, and the world-building is decent. But the pacing is a bit slow, and the writing style is a bit… bland. It's like the author is holding back, not quite willing to commit to the story. (Kind of like when you’re ordering food and you’re not sure if you want extra cheese or not. Just go for it! You won’t regret it!) This is just my first impression, of course. I really hope things pick up as the story progresses. I want to see Alexander kick some bandit butt and turn Chambord City into a thriving metropolis! Or at least, a slightly less depressing metropolis. Baby steps, right?

One thing is sure, it feels like the beginning of something bigger. I'm curious to see how Alexander will use his Diablo 2 skills to survive and thrive in this harsh world. I'm curious to see if he can actually turn Chambord City around. And, most importantly, I'm curious to see if he can finally get some respect from his dad. Because, let's be honest, everyone wants to make their parents proud. Even if their parents are terrible kings who send them to live in a garbage dump. You know?

So, stay tuned! I'll be diving deeper into "Long Live the King" and sharing my thoughts along the way. Wish me luck! And maybe send me some extra stamina potions. I think I'm going to need them.
