My Exotic Beast Is Just A Little Bit Strong

My Exotic Beast Is Just A Little Bit Strong

Okay, so you know how everyone's got, like, a pet peeve? Mine's when people underestimate Bartholomew. Yeah, Bartholomew. My… exotic beast. (I'll get to the exotic part in a sec, promise!).

Seriously, folks, you haven't met Bartholomew. And that's probably a good thing. For you, anyway. He's not... hostile. Exactly. More like... enthusiastically rambunctious. Like a Golden Retriever who's also a tiny, scaled dragon. You get the picture?

Let's just say I spend a lot of time explaining why the neighbor's prize-winning petunias are now mysteriously relocated to my backyard. And why they're lightly singed. Accidents happen, right? Especially when your "little buddy" can breathe fire. (Okay, tiny puffs of smoke, but still!).

So, about that "exotic" thing. Bartholomew isn't exactly your average hamster. Or even a fancy iguana. Nope. Bartholomew is… well, he's a miniature, genetically-modified, (possibly) magical… griffin. I think? Look, the science gets hazy after "feathered wings" and "occasional bursts of unexplained energy."

Don't even ask how I acquired him. Let's just say it involved a late-night "research facility tour" (read: trespassing), a very confused scientist (who's probably still wondering where his prized genetically-engineered egg went), and a whole lot of luck. (And maybe a slightly bribed security guard with a weakness for chocolate donuts. No names mentioned!).

He's Just a Little Bit Strong… Right?

Now, the thing about Bartholomew is this: he's… powerful. In a small, fluffy, occasionally fire-breathing kind of way. But still! You wouldn't think something that fits in a cat carrier could pull down a small tree. But he can. I saw it happen. Twice.

I mean, it's not like he's Hulk-smashing buildings. It's more like… a rogue gust of wind, only that wind has claws and a surprisingly strong beak. Think of a fluffy, winged bulldozer with a penchant for shiny objects. That's Bartholomew.

And that's where the whole "underestimation" thing comes in. People see this adorable, feathery creature with big, innocent eyes, and they're all like, "Awww, he's so cute!" And then Bartholomew tries to "playfully" rip the buttons off their coat. Or accidentally sets their hair on fire. (Again, tiny puffs of smoke. Mostly.).

It's a constant battle, I tell ya. Explaining to people that, yes, Bartholomew is adorable. But also, yes, he could probably bench press your car. If he could reach the pedals, that is. And if he was motivated. (He's usually more interested in chasing squirrels.).

He's got this thing for squirrels. It's a whole thing. He'll see one, and suddenly all bets are off. Forget about the perfectly planned picnic, forget about the elegant garden party, forget about everything. Bartholomew is GOING to get that squirrel. Even if it means tearing through hedges, knocking over lawn furniture, and generally causing a level of chaos that would make Godzilla blush.

The Squirrel Predicament (And Other Minor Mishaps)

The squirrel obsession has led to some… interesting situations. Like the time he chased one into the mayor's office. During a very important meeting. Let's just say the mayor wasn't thrilled to find a miniature griffin perched on his head, attempting to catch a terrified rodent that had taken refuge in his toupee. (Yes, the mayor wears a toupee. It's public knowledge now!).

And then there was the incident with the ice cream truck. Apparently, Bartholomew thought the jingle meant it was serving free squirrels. He tried to… liberate… the ice cream. Using his beak. It was a sticky situation. Literally.

I'm starting to think I need a support group. "Owners of Overly Enthusiastic Exotic Beasts Anonymous." Or maybe just a really, really good therapist. Someone who specializes in feathered creatures with anger management issues. (Do those exist?).

But honestly? Despite all the chaos, the singed eyebrows, the near-constant apologies to my neighbors, I wouldn't trade Bartholomew for the world. He's… different. He's challenging. He's… surprisingly cuddly. When he's not trying to eat my shoelaces, that is.

He's also incredibly loyal. He's got this way of looking at me, these big, golden eyes that just melt my heart. And okay, maybe the fact that he can also protect me from muggers with a well-aimed puff of smoke helps a little too. (Hypothetically, of course. I haven't actually been mugged. Yet.).

So, yeah. My exotic beast is just a little bit strong. Maybe a little bit too strong. But he's also my best friend. My fluffy, scaled, slightly-fire-prone best friend. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Living With a Pocket-Sized Demolition Derby

Let’s talk about the practicalities, shall we? Keeping Bartholomew contained (or, more accurately, somewhat contained) is a full-time job. My house looks like a maximum-security petting zoo. Reinforced windows, extra-strength locks, motion sensors… you name it, I’ve probably installed it. My electricity bill is astronomical, thanks to all the UV lamps and heat rocks he needs to, uh, not freeze to death. He is, after all, part… something-that-needs-tropical-climes, I think.

Feeding him is another adventure. He's got a ridiculously sophisticated palate. He turns his nose up at anything less than organic, free-range crickets. And don't even get him started on mealworms that aren't ethically sourced. The guilt trip I get! It's enough to make you swear off insects entirely.

Vet bills? Don't even go there. Finding a vet who's comfortable treating a miniature griffin is like finding a unicorn who does taxes. It's rare. And expensive. Especially when Bartholomew decides to "explore" the surgical instruments. (He's very curious, you see.).

And the looks I get! Taking him for walks is an… experience. People stare. They point. They whisper. Children shriek with delight (or terror). I've even had a few people try to steal him. (Good luck with that. Bartholomew bites.).

But through it all, through the chaos, the expense, the constant vigilance, there's something incredibly rewarding about having Bartholomew in my life. He's a reminder that the world is full of surprises. That magic is real. And that even the smallest of creatures can possess extraordinary power. (And a serious addiction to squirrels.).

So, next time you see me frantically chasing a feathered blur across the park, just remember: I'm not crazy. I'm just trying to wrangle a miniature griffin who thinks he's a superhero. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it. And honestly? I wouldn't trade it for anything. (Except maybe a lifetime supply of squirrel-proof bird feeders. And a really, really strong leash.).

The Future is Feathered (and Possibly Explosive)

What does the future hold for Bartholomew and me? Honestly, I have no idea. Probably more chaos. More singed eyebrows. More frantic apologies to my neighbors. But also, more laughter. More adventure. And more unconditional love from a creature who's just a little bit… special.

I'm secretly hoping he'll learn to control his fire-breathing abilities. Maybe even learn to fly properly. (He mostly just glides awkwardly at the moment.). Imagine: me, soaring through the sky on the back of my miniature griffin, fighting crime and rescuing kittens from trees. That's the dream, anyway.

In the meantime, I'll keep practicing my "damage control" techniques. I'm getting pretty good at extinguishing small fires with a garden hose. And I've learned to always carry a bag of organic, free-range crickets. Just in case.

So, if you ever see a headline that reads "Miniature Griffin Terrorizes Local Town," you'll know who to blame. But also, you'll know that somewhere, deep down, Bartholomew is just trying to make the world a slightly more interesting place. One singed petunia at a time.

And maybe, just maybe, that's not such a bad thing after all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I hear a squirrel taunting Bartholomew from the roof. Wish me luck!
