My Five Brothers Are Big Shots

My Five Brothers Are Big Shots

Okay, so picture this: Thanksgiving dinner. The usual chaos, right? Turkey, mashed potatoes, Aunt Carol’s questionable cranberry sauce… but this year, it was different. Like, Hollywood different. My brother, Ben (we’ll get to him later), actually had to duck outside for a "quick call" with Spielberg. Spielberg! I swear, I almost choked on a Brussels sprout.

That’s when it really hit me. My five brothers? They’re not just doing alright. They're…well, they’re kinda big shots. I mean, I always knew they were ambitious, driven, the whole nine yards. But seeing it all in action, the Spielberg phone call, the hushed conversations about million-dollar deals… it was a bit surreal.

So, let me introduce you to the lineup, shall we? Prepare yourself; it's a wild ride.

The A-Team (My Brothers, That Is)

First up, there's David. He’s the oldest, and in true oldest-child fashion, he's a total control freak. (Just kidding… mostly.) He's a high-powered lawyer downtown, the kind you see on TV, arguing passionately about things I don’t even understand. I think he mostly deals with corporate mergers and acquisitions? Honestly, all I hear is "blah blah millions of dollars blah blah." Anyone know anything about it, let me know?

Next, we have Michael. Oh, Michael. He’s the creative one. The artist. The reason our family Thanksgivings usually have at least one interpretive dance performance. He’s a successful architect, designing those ridiculously expensive houses you see in magazines. The kind with infinity pools and walls made of glass. He also has a beard. A very important beard. The beard is key to his whole persona.

Then there’s Ben, our Spielberg-chatting brother. He’s a film producer, the guy who makes the movies happen. Apparently, he's good at it, because he’s always jetting off to exotic locations and hanging out with famous people. He's also the one who's most likely to bring a supermodel home for Christmas. Just saying. Don’t tell Mom I said that, though.

After Ben comes Andrew. He's the "tech guru" of the family. He built some app years ago that went viral (I think it involved cats?), and now he's basically set for life. He wears hoodies to board meetings. He works from Bali. He is living the dream. Sometimes, I consider learning to code just to be able to have a remote job and take pictures of my meals.

Finally, there's Christopher. He’s the youngest and, arguably, the most grounded. He’s a doctor, a pediatrician. He’s actually saving lives, while the rest of us are just making money and building fancy houses. (No offense, brothers! I love you!) He's the reason Mom can brag to her friends without sounding completely materialistic.

So, What Does This All Mean?

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure that out. On one hand, I’m incredibly proud of them. They’ve worked hard, they’re successful, and they deserve all the good things that have come their way. On the other hand, it’s… a lot. They're always so busy, so focused on their careers. Sometimes, I just miss the days when we were all kids, fighting over the remote and playing video games.

It also makes me wonder about my own path. I’m a freelance writer (obviously!), which is great, but it doesn’t exactly scream "big shot." Does that make me the family underachiever? Probably. Am I okay with that? Most of the time. I mean, I get to work in my pajamas. That’s gotta count for something, right? Okay, I convince myself.

But seriously, maybe the definition of "big shot" is different for everyone. Maybe it's not about money or fame or power. Maybe it's about finding something you love and doing it well. (Deep thoughts, brought to you by having five incredibly successful brothers!)

So, next Thanksgiving, when Ben's talking to Spielberg again, I'll try not to choke on my Brussels sprouts. Instead, I'll just be grateful for my crazy, ambitious, ridiculously successful family. And maybe subtly hint that I need a new laptop. You know, for work. Spielberg, if you're reading this...
