Picking Up Attributes From Today

Okay, so, real talk. Ever feel like you're just...absorbing things all day? Like a human sponge? I know I do! Today's been a prime example. I'm practically dripping with new quirks, opinions, and possibly a mild coffee addiction. (Okay, maybe not new.) But seriously, it's fascinating! Let's break down the loot I've picked up today, shall we?
Morning Musings (aka The Caffeine-Fueled Brain Dump)
It all started with my morning commute. You know the drill: packed train, questionable smells, and the constant fear of missing your stop. But today, I overheard a snippet of a conversation that's been rattling around in my head ever since.
Two guys were debating the merits of using hot sauce on...wait for it...oatmeal. Seriously! Oatmeal! I'm a fairly adventurous eater, but that's a bridge too far, right? Or is it? I mean, they seemed pretty passionate about it. Could this be the breakfast game-changer I never knew I needed? I’m now seriously considering a tiny dab of sriracha tomorrow morning. Wish me luck (and maybe have 911 on standby).
Must Read
Then, there was the woman reading a book with a title so ridiculously long, I almost choked on my (decaffeinated – trying to be good, people!) coffee. It was something like "The Existential Dread of Squirrels in Suburban Landscapes: A Post-Modern Analysis." I mean, come on! Who comes up with this stuff? But…part of me is now wildly curious. Maybe I'll Google it later. Maybe. Although, my brain already feels like it's at full capacity. Squirrel existentialism might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Office Shenanigans and the Art of Passive Aggression
Ah, the office. A breeding ground for awkward encounters and subtle power plays. Today was no exception. First, I witnessed Brenda from accounting microwaving fish. Fish! In a shared microwave! The audacity! I'm pretty sure the entire floor now smells like a seafood market. I've definitely added "master the art of passive-aggressive note-writing" to my skills inventory. My future roommate/annoying neighbor is so screwed.
And then there was the meeting. Oh, the meeting. You know, the kind that could have been an email? Where everyone just nods sagely and pretends to understand what the VP of Synergy is talking about? I swear, I think I actually learned a new language today: Corporate B.S. I'm now fluent in phrases like "moving the needle," "thinking outside the box," and "synergistic opportunities." I'm considering putting it on my resume. Maybe I could get a raise? Probably not. But a girl can dream, right?

But amidst the corporate jargon, I also picked up a surprisingly useful piece of information. Turns out, my colleague, Dave, is a master of Excel shortcuts. Excel! I know, it sounds boring, but hear me out. I spend half my life wrestling with spreadsheets, so any tips or tricks are pure gold. I cornered him during lunch and grilled him for all he was worth. Now I can add "Excel Ninja in Training" to my ever-growing list of attributes. Watch out, world! (Especially if you need a pivot table created.)
Afternoon Adventures and Accidental Wisdom
After work, I decided to hit the gym. I know, I know, shocking, right? I'm more of a Netflix-and-chill kind of person, but I'm trying to be healthier. Anyway, while I was struggling to lift a weight that probably weighed less than my cat, I overheard a conversation between two very fit individuals. (Seriously, they looked like they were sculpted from granite.)
They were talking about the importance of consistency over intensity. Basically, it's better to do a little bit every day than to go all-out once a week and then collapse on the couch for the next three days. Which, let's be honest, is pretty much my current fitness strategy. So, I guess I learned that I need to be less of an all-or-nothing kind of person and more of a...consistent-ish kind of person. Baby steps, people, baby steps.

Then, on my way home, I stumbled upon a street performer playing the saxophone. He was absolutely incredible! He was playing this soulful, bluesy tune that just stopped me in my tracks. It was a reminder that there's beauty and talent everywhere, even in the most unexpected places. I actually dropped a few dollars in his case, which is saying something, considering I'm usually pretty stingy. I guess I picked up a little bit of...generosity? Or maybe just a greater appreciation for really good music.
Evening Epiphanies (and Takeout Regrets)
To end the day, I treated myself to takeout. (Don't judge me! I deserved it after that gym visit...ish.) I ordered my usual: pad thai. And as I was shoveling noodles into my face, I started watching a documentary about the history of noodles. Seriously! Noodles! I didn't even know there was a documentary about noodles!
But it was fascinating! I learned that noodles have been around for thousands of years and that they're a staple food in countless cultures. It made me realize that even the simplest things in life have a rich and complex history. And that maybe I should try a different type of noodle next time. Maybe ramen? Or udon? The possibilities are endless!

However, after finishing the pad thai, I also realized I probably ordered too much. Now I feel uncomfortably full. So, I guess I also learned a valuable lesson about portion control. Or maybe I just reaffirmed my lifelong love of noodles, regardless of the consequences. Either way, it's been a day of learning and growth (and maybe a little bit of overeating).
The Grand Takeaway (aka What I'm Actually Going to Use)
So, what's the point of all this rambling? Well, I think it's important to be mindful of the things we're picking up from the world around us. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, whether it's a useful Excel shortcut or a philosophical musing on the existential dread of squirrels.
We're constantly being bombarded with information, opinions, and experiences. It's up to us to filter out the noise and focus on the things that are truly valuable. And sometimes, the most valuable things are the things we least expect. Like hot sauce on oatmeal (maybe). Or a documentary about noodles. Or a random act of kindness from a stranger.

So, go out there and soak it all in! Be curious, be open-minded, and don't be afraid to try new things. And who knows? Maybe you'll even learn something along the way. Just try not to microwave fish in the office. Please. The smell lingers.
Today, I’m officially adding:
- A slight openness to savory oatmeal (but only slight!).
- Corporate B.S. fluency (mostly for comedic purposes).
- Beginner Excel Ninja skills (spreadsheet domination, here I come!).
- A commitment to consistent-ish exercise (baby steps, remember?).
- A renewed appreciation for street performers (and generosity!).
- Noodle history knowledge (prepare to be amazed at my next dinner party!).
- A nagging feeling of being slightly too full (worth it!).
And most importantly, a reminder that even the most ordinary day can be extraordinary if you pay attention. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go lie down and digest all this newfound wisdom. And maybe Google that squirrel book. Don't judge.
