The Lady I Served Became A Master

The Lady I Served Became A Master

Okay, so you know how life throws curveballs? Like, you're expecting a fastball and BAM! It's a knuckleball from outta nowhere. Well, buckle up, because I’m about to tell you a story that's more like a whole *baseball game* of unexpected twists. All starting with serving tea! Fancy that.

It all began (as these things usually do, right?) with a job. A pretty mundane one, to be honest. I was, let's say, a "personal assistant" to a very… particular lady named Eleanor. Think impeccably dressed, perpetually unimpressed, and possibly descended from actual royalty. I mean, maybe. She definitely acted like it.

My duties? Oh, the usual. Answering phones, scheduling appointments, making sure her tea was precisely the right temperature (which, let me tell you, was a delicate dance of boiling water, a stopwatch, and a whole lotta hoping I wouldn't get yelled at). You know, grunt work! But every job, even making tea, has its lessons. Right?

The Tea Master? More Like Tea Tyrant!

Eleanor. Oh, Eleanor. She had *opinions*. Strong ones. About everything. From the precise shade of beige her walls should be (apparently, there were multiple beiges, who knew?) to the correct pronunciation of "scone." I swear, one wrong move with the teapot and it was like facing a firing squad of withering glares.

Was it easy? Absolutely not. Did I question my life choices on a daily basis? Probably. But, and this is a big but (no pun intended!), somewhere along the line, something shifted. I started noticing things. Like, really noticing them.

The way she moved, the way she spoke, the way she negotiated deals that would make Gordon Gekko sweat. You see where this is going, don’t you? I started, almost subconsciously, learning. Absorbing. Like a sponge soaked in liquid… mastery. I know, sounds cheesy! But it was true.

And it wasn't just about the business stuff. It was about confidence. The way she carried herself, the unwavering belief in her own abilities. Even when she was wrong (which, admittedly, wasn't often), she sold it like it was the gospel truth. And people bought it! Imagine that!

From Tea Server to… Apprentice?

One day, (this is the turning point, folks!) she threw me a curveball. A *huge* one. She said, "You're observant, [my name]." (She rarely used my name, so this was a big deal). "You're learning. And I believe you have potential."

Me? Potential? From Eleanor? I nearly choked on my tea (ironically, brewed to *her* specifications). She then offered me… wait for it… mentorship. She would, in her own prickly, demanding way, teach me everything she knew. No free lunch, of course! I still had to make the tea. But, still! Opportunity knocked!

The next few years were intense. Think *The Devil Wears Prada* meets *Karate Kid*. There were spreadsheets, power lunches, and more than a few existential crises. But I persevered. I learned. I grew. And slowly, but surely, I transformed. I wasn’t just a tea-serving assistant anymore.

I began to understand the intricate dance of business, the subtle art of negotiation, the importance of knowing the difference between ecru and eggshell (still debatable, in my opinion!). And most importantly, I learned to believe in myself. Eleanor pushed me to my limits. But she also showed me I was capable of far more than I ever thought possible. Imagine that, all thanks to perfect tea!

The Student Becomes… the Master?!

Fast forward to today. I'm running my own company. Successful, thriving, and, dare I say, a little bit intimidating (in a good way, I hope!). And you know what? Every time I make a decision, negotiate a deal, or even just pour myself a cup of tea, I think of Eleanor. The lady I served. The master I inadvertently became.

And here's the kicker! We still have tea sometimes. She even compliments my brewing skills now (progress!). Although, I suspect she's just being polite. But hey, a girl can dream, right? So, the next time you're stuck in a seemingly dead-end job, remember my story. You never know, the person you're serving might just be the key to unlocking your own potential. You never know when you can become a master.
