The Old Man Reincarnated As A Villainess - Chapter 1

The Old Man Reincarnated As A Villainess - Chapter 1

Okay, so picture this: You're at a family dinner, right? And your Grandpa starts going on this crazy rant about how he’s always right, and how if he were in charge, things would be so much better. Annoying, yeah? We've all been there. But what if, instead of just rolling your eyes and grabbing another bread roll, your Grandpa actually got his wish? Not in a world leader kind of way, but, like… reincarnated into some ridiculously over-the-top situation?

That's kind of the vibe I got from reading the first chapter of "The Old Man Reincarnated As A Villainess." I mean, obviously, it’s not actually about my Grandpa (thank goodness!), but the core idea is there: What happens when someone who’s lived a long life, full of strong opinions and probably a few regrets, suddenly finds themselves in the body of someone completely different, in a world that makes absolutely no sense?

The Setup: A Princess… of Doom?

Chapter 1 drops us right into the deep end. Our main character, who we quickly learn used to be some grumpy old dude named Arthur, wakes up as Princess Iris. And not just any princess, oh no. She’s the villainess of an otome game. (For those who don’t know, an otome game is basically a dating sim for girls, usually with handsome anime boys. I feel like Arthur would be thoroughly confused by this whole concept.)

So, Arthur-turned-Iris is gorgeous, rich, and destined to be publicly humiliated and possibly executed for trying to steal the heroine's man. A real prize, huh? Now, here's the kicker: Iris-Arthur remembers the game. She knows all the plot points, all the character quirks, and exactly how things are supposed to go horribly, horribly wrong.

Can you imagine the existential dread? I mean, waking up as a princess is already a lot to process. But waking up as a princess who's essentially a walking plot device, destined for a tragic ending? I'd need a stiff drink (or ten).

Arthur's Reaction: Utter Disbelief (and a Little Bit of Annoyance)

Honestly, the best part of this first chapter is Arthur's internal monologue. He’s not all swooning and "Oh, how fabulous, I’m a princess!" He’s mostly just bewildered and irritated. He keeps referring to his new form as “this body” and lamenting the loss of his comfortable armchair and his afternoon naps. It's hilarious!

He’s also surprisingly pragmatic. He immediately starts trying to figure out how to avoid his villainous fate. No dramatic declarations of love for the prince, no evil schemes, just a determined old man (in a princess’s body) trying to figure out how to not get his head chopped off. I'm here for it!

The inner dialogue is really well done, and I think that's why I got so invested. He’s not some generic, pretty-faced protagonist. He’s an old man with decades of experience and a healthy dose of cynicism, trapped in a situation that's both absurd and terrifying. It’s a recipe for comedy gold.

The Hook: Can an Old Dog Learn New Tricks (or Otome Game Tropes)?

Chapter 1 ends with Iris-Arthur deciding to use his knowledge of the game to change the course of events. He plans to not be the villainess. He plans to not fall in love with the prince. He plans to… well, he doesn’t quite know what he plans, but it definitely involves a lot of tea and strategizing.

This is where the story gets really interesting, right? Can Arthur, with his old-fashioned sensibilities and his lack of understanding of teenage romance, navigate the treacherous waters of an otome game? Will he accidentally make things worse? And more importantly, will he ever get used to wearing dresses?

Honestly, I'm already hooked. The premise is ridiculous, the characters are intriguing, and the writing is genuinely funny. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and a little bit different, I highly recommend giving "The Old Man Reincarnated As A Villainess" a try.
