You can almost smell the earthy scent of the muck, you know?

But by night? Forget about it! It's all about community, music, dancing, and most importantly, each other. Janie’s experiencing a freedom and joy she's never known before. She's laughing, joking, and participating fully in life. Remember Jody? (Ugh, shudder). This is like the anti-Jody life.

And Tea Cake? He’s just…he’s good to her. He treats her like an equal, a partner, and a friend. He listens to her. This might sound basic, but given Janie’s past, it’s revolutionary.
