Okay, let's talk A Kiss Of Light And Flame. We all know it. We've all probably read it... or at least pretended to. I have a confession.
I... I think it's a little overhyped. There, I said it. Don't @ me. (Okay, you can @ me, but be nice.)
The Pretty Art, Though...
Look, I'm not saying it's *bad*. The art is gorgeous. Seriously, Miyazaki-sensei could draw a grocery list and it would look like a masterpiece.
And Eira's hair? Iconic. The way the fire is rendered? Stunning. It's eye candy, pure and simple.
But sometimes, I feel like the art carries the entire story. Just me? Okay, moving on.
The Plot Thickens (or Does It?)
The story starts strong, right? Forbidden romance! Magic! Intrigue! Kieran is brooding and mysterious. It's all very exciting.
Then... it kinda just... meanders. We get endless training arcs. Side characters popping up then disappearing into the ether. I kept waiting for something HUGE to happen.
And don't even get me started on the amnesia arc. Seriously? In *this* day and age? Groundbreaking.
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
Here's where I might lose some of you. Are you ready? I actually found Eira a little... bland.
Yes, she's strong. Yes, she's determined. But she mostly reacts to things. Where's the fire (pun intended!) I wanted more personality! More quirks!
I need to see someone struggling between duty and desire.
But Kieran is Hot, So...
Okay, I admit it. Kieran is a total babe. The tortured past? The brooding stares? It's a winning formula.
But even he gets a bit repetitive. It's like, "Oh, Kieran's being mysterious again. Shocker." I needed a little more vulnerability!
Like, I'd wanted some scenes about Kieran being stressed from being too attractive.
The Slow Burn... That Never Really Burns?
The romance? Supposedly epic. Years in the making.
But I felt like I was waiting for a bonfire that only ever produced a lukewarm ember. Give me some actual passion! I want to see some kissing!
I need them to make out in the rain.
Don't Hate Me!
Look, I'm not saying A Kiss Of Light And Flame is garbage. It's definitely readable. It's pretty. It's got a dedicated fanbase for a reason.
But for me, it just didn't live up to the hype. I wanted more substance! More depth!
Maybe I'm just a grumpy old manga reader. Or maybe, just maybe, you secretly agree with me? Don't be shy. Share your unpopular opinions in the comments!
And hey, at least it gave us some fantastic cosplay opportunities. Right?
It's still a great manga to get you in to the world of reading manga!
