Okay, Let's Talk About That Theme Song
A Place to Call Home. Great show, right? Dramatic storylines, fantastic costumes, hidden secrets galore.
But that theme song? Let's just say it's... an experience.
The Musical Elephant in the Room
Look, I get it. It's supposed to be all wistful and nostalgic. Evoking a feeling of simpler times in post-war Australia.
But sometimes, simpler isn't better. Sometimes, simpler is just... repetitive. Anyone else feel me?
It's like a lullaby sung by a slightly sad robot. Pleasant enough, but it sticks around a bit too long.
Is It Just Me, Or...?
I'm not saying it's a *bad* song. Just... not my cup of tea. It's a bit like drinking warm milk before bed.
Maybe it's the instrumentals? That mournful string section just drags on! So many other shows have theme songs that are instant earworms!
You find yourself humming them days later. This one? Not so much. I’m busy trying to skip it every episode.
The Skip Button Is My Best Friend
Thank goodness for streaming services! That little "skip intro" button is a lifesaver, isn't it? I might even go as far as say that is my best friend in the series, sorry Sarah Adam!
It’s a reflex. As soon as the opening scene starts, my finger is hovering. Ready to pounce.
It allows me to get straight to the drama! Straight to Sarah Adams' amazing wardrobe. And let's not forget, the witty banter.
Unpopular Opinion Time
Okay, here's where I might lose some of you. I think the show might actually be *better* without a theme song at all.
Imagine, just BAM! Straight into the action. No mournful musical interlude. The suspense would be incredible!
Or maybe a different theme song entirely? Something a little more... upbeat? Imagine a jaunty jazz tune! Or maybe a rock song, how cool is that?
Okay, Maybe Jazz Is Too Far
Okay, okay, maybe jazz is a bit much. I’m just spitballing here.
But seriously, anything with a bit more... *oomph*. Something that gets your blood pumping before you witness the drama of Inverness.
Perhaps something more contemporary? To appeal to a modern audience, while keeping the series' feel? That can be achieved!
In Defense of the Show
Don't get me wrong, I adore *A Place to Call Home*. I binged watched it!
The acting is superb. The storylines are captivating. I'm constantly on the edge of my seat. I can't stop watching this brilliant piece.
It's just... that theme song. It's a tiny speed bump on an otherwise perfect road.
So, Am I Alone?
Anyone else feel this way? Or am I destined to be forever alone in my dislike for the theme song?
Sound off in the comments! Let me know if you agree. Or if you think I'm completely bonkers. I'm ready to hear it.
Maybe Seven Network should run a competition to find a new theme song for future re-runs! I'd enter!
