An Unpopular Opinion About The Duke and His Maid
Okay, folks, let's talk about Alice and the Duke of Death. Don't get me wrong, the concept is charming. A cursed duke, a sassy maid? Recipe for rom-com gold, right?
But hear me out. Is it just me, or is Alice a little too forward? I know, I know, that's kind of the point. Still, sometimes I think she's bordering on aggressively flirty.
Is it really cute, or is it just... relentless teasing? Maybe I'm just old fashioned. I blame the excessive shoujo manga I read in my youth.
The Curse: A Convenient Plot Device?
Let's be honest, the curse is kind of convenient. It's the perfect excuse for all the pining and awkward encounters. It prevents any real physical intimacy.
I almost wish the curse was lifted sooner. Then we'd see how the relationship really works. Maybe they'd just end up yelling at each other about dirty dishes.
Don't get me wrong, I love the slow burn. But at some point, you need to actually, you know, ignite something!
Is the Duke Too Passive?
The Duke is, undeniably, a cinnamon roll. He's sweet, kind, and utterly devoted to Alice. But sometimes I want to shake him a little bit.
Stand up for yourself, Duke! Maybe try flirting back, just once? Show Alice you're not just a pushover. Although, his blushing is pretty adorable.
Perhaps his passivity makes Alice's advances seem even more aggressive. It's a dynamic, for sure. Is it always a healthy one? That's up for debate.
The Side Characters: Bless Their Hearts
The supporting cast is great. Rob and Viola bring the much needed comic relief. They are the true MVPs of the series.
Their interactions with the Duke and Alice are always gold. They add a dimension beyond the central romance. I really appreciate the dynamic they added.
Without them, it would be constant unrequited longing. And that will get old pretty fast, if you ask me.
The Visuals: Undeniably Gorgeous
Okay, one thing I can't complain about is the art style. The backgrounds are stunning. And the character designs are really cute.
The attention to detail is impressive. Especially the rendering of the Duke's mansion and the surrounding forests. It is really a treat for the eyes.
Visually, the show is a masterpiece. Even if the plot is a bit... repetitive at times.
Final Thoughts: A Guilty Pleasure
Ultimately, Alice and the Duke of Death is a guilty pleasure. I find myself coming back for more, despite my reservations.
Maybe it's the escapism. Maybe it's the hope for a happy ending. Or maybe I just like seeing a perpetually flustered anime boy.
Whatever the reason, I'm hooked. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have an episode to watch.
