So, you're thinking about diving into the world of Resident Evil on your Xbox One? Buckle up, buttercup, because it's a wild ride filled with zombies, mutants, and enough jump scares to make you spill your Mountain Dew. Let's break down the mayhem available on your console.
The Classics Get a Facelift
First up, we have the remasters. Think of them as giving the granddaddy of survival horror a digital spa day. These are the games that started it all, but with shinier graphics and smoother gameplay.
Resident Evil (Remastered)
This one's the granddaddy of them all. Picture this: a creepy mansion, a locked door, and a zombie dog leaping through a window. Pure nightmare fuel, but in the best way possible! You'll play as either Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine as they investigate a series of gruesome murders.
The atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a knife, and the puzzles are delightfully obtuse. Prepare to backtrack... a lot. Be prepared to learn the iconic "Jill Sandwich" dialogue!
Resident Evil 0 (Remastered)
This prequel takes you back to the very beginning, before the infamous mansion incident. You play as rookie cop Rebecca Chambers and escaped convict Billy Coen. They have to team up to survive a train full of...you guessed it...zombies!
The "partner zapping" mechanic is unique, allowing you to switch between the two characters to solve puzzles and fight enemies. It's like a buddy cop movie, but with more undead.
Resident Evil 4
Ah, Resident Evil 4, widely considered one of the best games ever made. Leon S. Kennedy is tasked with rescuing the President's daughter from a mysterious cult in rural Spain. What could go wrong?
This one is a massive departure from the earlier games, with a focus on action and over-the-shoulder shooting. You'll be fighting hordes of angry villagers, chainsaw-wielding maniacs, and giant lake monsters. It is pure over-the-top awesomeness!
The Modern Era of Terror
Then we move into the modern era, where Resident Evil went through some... interesting phases. These games are generally more action-oriented but still pack a punch in the horror department.
Resident Evil 5
Chris Redfield returns, this time partnering with Sheva Alomar in Africa to investigate a new outbreak. It's got co-op, which means you can bring a friend along to scream with you! Just be prepared to argue over who gets the ammo.
Some fans love it, some hate it, but it's undeniably a fun romp with plenty of explosions and ridiculous boss fights. Just remember to bring your sunscreen... and maybe a rocket launcher.
Resident Evil 6
Okay, Resident Evil 6 is... a lot. It’s actually four different campaigns. This is the Resident Evil equivalent of a superhero team-up movie. Expect lots of explosions, QTEs, and convoluted storylines.
It's divisive, sure, but it's also undeniably ambitious. It is a playable, over-the-top, action movie.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
This one's a return to form, and a terrifying one at that. Ditching the third-person perspective, Resident Evil 7 throws you into the bayou in first-person. You are searching for your missing wife and you stumble upon the creepy Baker family.
Prepare for a claustrophobic and genuinely scary experience, with a healthy dose of body horror thrown in for good measure. This game single-handedly redeemed the franchise.
Resident Evil 2 (Remake)
This is not your grandpa's Resident Evil 2. This is a ground-up reimagining of the classic, with stunning graphics, updated gameplay, and even more terrifying zombies. Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield find themselves in Raccoon City during a full-blown outbreak.
Mr. X will haunt your dreams. Trust me on this one. This is a must-play for any Resident Evil fan or anyone looking for a good scare.
"STARS!"
Resident Evil 3 (Remake)
Following in the footsteps of RE2, this remake brings Jill Valentine's story to life with modern graphics and gameplay. You are being relentlessly pursued by the Nemesis. A bioweapon designed to hunt down and eliminate all S.T.A.R.S. members.
While it's shorter than RE2, it's still a thrilling ride with plenty of action and horrifying creatures. Good luck trying to outrun Nemesis!
Resident Evil Village
Continuing the story from Resident Evil 7, this one takes you to a creepy European village full of werewolves, vampires, and other grotesque creatures. Ethan Winters is back, and this time he's trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter.
Lady Dimitrescu will steal your heart (and maybe your blood). This is a bizarre and beautiful game with a memorable cast of characters and a story that will keep you guessing.
