Okay, let's talk about American Horror Story: Double Feature, specifically Red Tide, episode four. "Blood Buffet." Was it just me, or was anyone else feeling a little...underwhelmed?
The Chemist's Big Reveal (or Lack Thereof)
We finally got some backstory on The Chemist, played by the always-amazing Angelica Ross. Turns out, she's just... obsessed with unlocking human potential through questionable means? Shocking!
Honestly, I was expecting something a little more… sinister? Maybe a tragic backstory involving aliens or a government conspiracy. Instead, we got "I want to make people perfect, but in a pill form!"
Harry's Creative Crisis (Again!)
Good ol' Harry (Finn Wittrock) is still struggling with his newfound genius and insatiable bloodlust. He's churning out masterpieces, but at what cost?
Watching him stress about writer's block and then chugging blood like a vampire energy drink is kind of relatable, if you think about it. We've all been there, right? (Maybe not the blood part.)
His agent Ursula is pushing him to new heights, and clearly enjoying the success and money from Harry's work. But who can blame her?
The Pale People: Still Just... There
The Pale People are still lurking around, being creepy and... pale. They are not doing much. Are they threatening? Are they just hungry?
They're like the world's worst extras, just wandering around the background, occasionally hissing. Honestly, I find them more comical than scary at this point. My apologies.
I know, I know, that's probably an unpopular opinion. Sorry, everyone. But like, what is their purpose, really?
Alma: Mini-Monster in the Making
Alma, Harry's daughter, is quickly becoming the scariest character on the show. She is cold, ambitious, and completely ruthless.
Her dedication to becoming a violin prodigy is…intense. And her methods of eliminating the competition are definitely not in line with the school's zero-tolerance policy.
This kid is going places! (Hopefully, not to jail.) Seriously though, the actress playing her is killing it!
The Overall Vibe
Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying Red Tide. But "Blood Buffet" felt a little… slow. Maybe it was the lack of jump scares, or the predictable plot points.
It felt like it was setting the stage for something bigger, but didn't quite deliver on its own. I was still intrigued with the Chemist's motives.
Maybe I am just too hard on this season. I will admit, I am waiting for the aliens. I'm really excited to see how both halves of the *Double Feature* connect.
"Is it wrong to want more from American Horror Story?"
Maybe my expectations are too high. But I just know Ryan Murphy and his team can deliver something truly terrifying and mind-bending.
I'm still holding out hope for some major twists and turns in the remaining episodes. But I'm not afraid to admit, Red Tide is not my favorite AHS season.
But hey, that's just my opinion. I'm sure some of you are loving the small-town horror vibes. And that's totally valid!
But for me, I need a little more… oomph. Bring on the aliens, I say!
