So, About Another World With My Smartphone...
Okay, let's be honest. We all know Another World With My Smartphone. It's that anime you secretly binged. You probably won't admit it to your super-serious anime club, though.
It's about Touya. He gets accidentally killed by God. God feels bad, so he reincarnates Touya in a fantasy world. Oh, and he gets to keep his smartphone. Talk about an upgrade!
The Power of...Google?
Imagine landing in a world of swords and magic. But you also have Google Maps. Talk about OP. Touya definitely had an unfair advantage.
He uses his phone to do all sorts of things. Translate languages? Check. Find the best recipes? Check. Order pizza? Okay, maybe not pizza. But you get the idea.
Seriously, who needs magic when you have Wikipedia? Just saying. I think it's genius!
Harem Antics and Mild Mayhem
The show is, well, a harem anime. Touya collects waifus like they're limited edition gacha characters. Each girl is unique, in her own, uh, archetypal way.
They all adore him. For reasons that are sometimes…questionable. He's just a nice guy with a smartphone. Is that really all it takes? Maybe I should upgrade my phone.
There are battles, of course. Monsters and mechs, you know, the usual. But Touya always wins. Because, surprise, smartphone powers!
The Unpopular Opinion Corner
Here's where I might lose some of you. I actually kind of enjoyed it! Don't get me wrong, it's not high art. It's fluffy, predictable, and sometimes downright silly.
But sometimes that's exactly what you need! A brain-off isekai with a ridiculously overpowered protagonist. It's like junk food for your anime soul.
It knows what it is and embraces it. No shame in that game! Another World With My Smartphone doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't.
The Verdict: Guilty Pleasure?
Okay, okay, I'll admit it. It's a guilty pleasure. I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for deep philosophical themes. Or complex character development.
But if you want a lighthearted, easy-to-watch anime. Something you can laugh at (and maybe with). Then give Another World With My Smartphone a try.
Just don't tell anyone I said that. It'll ruin my anime cred. Unless, of course, you agree with me. Then we can start a secret society of smartphone isekai enjoyers.
Touya's Charm
Honestly, part of the appeal is Touya's unwavering niceness. He's not some brooding anti-hero. He's genuinely trying to help people. Even if his methods are, shall we say, technologically advanced.
In a world filled with grimdark stories, a bit of optimism is refreshing. Even if that optimism comes from a guy with a smartphone and a harem of adoring women.
So, there you have it. My not-so-secret love for Another World With My Smartphone. Judge me if you must. I'll be over here, waiting for season two...with my smartphone in hand.
