Okay, let's talk about *that* episode. You know the one. Season 4, Episode 5 of Attack on Titan. "Declaration of War."
Honestly? I think it's a bit...overhyped. Controversial, I know! But hear me out.
The Hype Train
Everyone was losing their minds. Best episode ever! A masterpiece! And yeah, it was good. But the *best*?
Maybe my expectations were too high. The internet had me thinking I'd levitate off my couch. I remained firmly planted.
Let's Be Real About Willy Tybur
The main event was Willy Tybur. He gave a speech. A very long speech.
Don't get me wrong, it was important. Exposition central! But was it thrilling? Debatable.
I found myself checking my phone. I know, I know, *gasp*! Sacrilege!
He talks about history and strategy. The world is doomed and it is all because of Eren Yeager.
The Transformation! (Finally!)
Then BAM! Eren shows up. BOOM! Titan transformation! Okay, NOW we're talking.
The tension was palpable. Everyone gasped. I, admittedly, perked up a bit.
But...it felt a little rushed. Maybe it's just me.
The Warhammer Titan
And then we meet the Warhammer Titan. Spooky! That entrance was pretty cool.
New titan abilities! Always exciting. But, again, did it blow my mind? Not entirely.
A good titan fight. I just think there are better titan fights in the show. Remember when *Levi* goes up against the Beast Titan in Season 3. That scene was insane!
Unpopular Opinion Time
So, here's my "unpopular" opinion: It's a good episode. Not a *great* episode.
The build-up was a tad too long. Willy's speech could have been trimmed. (Sorry, Willy!)
The actual titan action felt a little...contained. Like they were holding back something. Which they probably were!
Maybe I'm just desensitized. After four seasons of titan battles, it takes a *lot* to truly shock me.
Other episode in the series where more action-packed. Not to mention, it had a lot of plot and lore.
Don't Get Me Wrong!
I still love Attack on Titan. Don't get me wrong! I'm just playing devil's advocate here.
The animation was gorgeous. The voice acting superb. The overall atmosphere? Intense.
And the episode definitely set the stage for what's to come. The final battle!
It's just...I think some other episodes deserve more love. Like the one where Erwin rallies the troops against the Beast Titan.
So, what do you think? Am I totally off base? Let me know!
And let the Attack on Titan debates continue!
Maybe I will rewatch it to see if my opinions changes. Though I doubt it.
