Ever shared an apartment with someone who leaves their dirty socks everywhere? Imagine that, but one roommate is a vampire, the other a werewolf, and you're a ghost trying to figure out why you’re still hanging around. Welcome to Season 1 of the North American Being Human!
Roommates from Hell (Literally)
This isn't your typical supernatural drama. It's about trying to be normal when you're anything but. Aidan, the vampire, Josh, the werewolf, and Sally, the ghost, just want to fit in. They crave mundane things like having friends and maybe even finding love.
Problem is, fitting in is kinda hard when you have to hide your fangs, lock yourself up during a full moon, or haunt the living because you can’t remember how you died. You know, typical roommate problems.
Aidan: The Brooding Bloodsucker
Aidan, played by Sam Witwer, is the responsible (sort of) one. He's been a vampire for over 200 years, which means he's seen a lot of stuff. He's trying to stay "clean," only feeding on donated blood, but temptations are, well, tempting.
He's got a past riddled with violence and loss, so beneath the brooding exterior lies a guy trying to make amends. And maybe find a decent dating app for undead dudes.
Josh: The Fuzzy, Sensitive Guy
Josh, portrayed by Sam Huntington, is the sweet, awkward werewolf. He's just trying to hold down a job and not accidentally eat anyone during his monthly transformations. Good luck with that!
He's all heart, but his lycanthropy makes relationships tricky. Imagine trying to explain to your date that you'll be unavailable for the next few days due to fur and snarling.
Sally: The Ghost with the Most (Regret)
Sally, brought to life by Meaghan Rath, is the heart of the show. She's a ghost trapped in their apartment, trying to piece together her past and figure out why she can't move on. She also has some amazing fashion sense, considering she's, you know, dead.
She's funny, quirky, and incredibly relatable, even when she’s phasing through walls. Sally is dealing with unfinished business, one haunting at a time.
Humor and Heartbreak
Season 1 of Being Human isn’t just about scares and special effects. It's about the bonds of friendship, the struggle for identity, and the everyday challenges of being…well, human. Even if you’re not.
There are genuinely funny moments, like when Josh tries to explain his "flu" to his boss or when Sally tries to give dating advice from beyond the grave. But there are also deeply moving scenes as each character confronts their demons (sometimes literally!).
"We're not monsters. We're just… trying to live."
This quote pretty much sums up the whole season. It's about finding your place in the world, even when the world doesn't quite understand you. And isn't that something we can all relate to?
So, if you're looking for a show that's equal parts spooky, funny, and heartwarming, give Season 1 of Being Human a try. You might just find yourself rooting for these supernatural roommates as they navigate the ups and downs of (un)life together.
