Okay, let's talk about My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 1. I know, I know, it’s old news. But bear with me!
Everyone was hyped for the Joint Training arc. It was supposed to be epic. Heroes clashing, quirks exploding!
The Recap That Wouldn't End
Then... we got a recap. A *really* long recap. Like, "did I accidentally skip ahead to episode three?" long.
Seriously, was it necessary? We all binge-watched season four like, last week. Did we *really* forget everything already?
I get it. Gotta refresh memories. But that recap felt like padding. Like they were saying, "Hey, remember this cool stuff? Get ready... for more of it... eventually."
Team Rivalries? Or Just Waiting?
The episode did have some new content. We saw the teams get shuffled. Aizawa and Vlad King were doing their usual grumpy teacher routine.
But even that felt... slow. Like a warm-up jog before the actual marathon. Lots of potential, not much payoff *yet*.
And don't even get me started on the Monoma scenes. I love the guy, I really do. But even his schtick felt a little overdone this time.
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
Okay, here's my unpopular opinion. Ready? Deep breaths.
...Episode 1 was kinda... boring? Gasp! I know, blasphemy!
Don't get me wrong, I love Boku No Hero Academia. It's my comfort food anime. But this episode felt like the appetizer you politely nibble on while waiting for the main course.
The animation was fine. The voice acting was on point. But the pacing just felt off. Like a hero using their quirk in slow motion.
The Hype Is Real... Still!
Look, I’m not saying season five is doomed. Absolutely not! The Joint Training arc has amazing potential.
I'm just saying, episode one was a bit of a letdown. It felt like all setup, no immediate punch.
I'm sure things will pick up. We'll get epic battles, quirk evolutions, and maybe even some character development for Bakugo that doesn't involve yelling. (Okay, maybe just less yelling.)
Hoping For More (And Less Recap!)
So, am I still excited for season five? Heck yeah! Am I hoping for less recap and more action in future episodes? You betcha!
I'm ready for Deku to smash some villains. I'm ready for Shoto Todoroki to use both sides of his quirk without complaining about his dad. I'm ready for all the heroic shenanigans!
But please, anime gods, less recap next time. My attention span can only handle so much before I start looking for shiny objects.
The Verdict? Patience, Young Heroes!
Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe I just expected too much. Maybe I need to lower my expectations and enjoy the ride.
But hey, that's the fun of being a fan, right? We get to dissect every episode, every scene, every frame. We get to complain and praise and speculate until our faces turn blue.
So, what did *you* think of episode one? Am I alone in my unpopular opinion? Or are you with me?
Let's discuss! But be nice. Remember, we're all just trying to survive until the next episode drops!
Plus Ultra! (Eventually...)
