Reincarnated with Slimes? You Had Me at Slimes.
Okay, let's talk about By the Grace of the Gods. Specifically, episode one. I watched it. You probably did too. Or you’re thinking about it.
First off, this Ryoma guy. He dies. Happens to the best of us, right? Then BAM! Gods! Reincarnation! A fresh start!
And where does he end up? Not as a powerful warrior prince. Not as a magical prodigy. Nope. He's in a forest chilling with…slimes.
My (Possibly Unpopular) Opinion: Slimes are Underrated
Hear me out. Everyone's always going on about dragons and elves. But slimes? They’re adorable, helpful, and apparently, very good at cleaning toilets.
Seriously, who needs a Roomba when you have a slime army? Ryoma is living the dream. This is his second life, and the bar is set to clean toilets. I'm okay with this.
He's researching slimes. He is breeding slimes. This is a biologist's paradise, but with more… goo.
The Gods: Surprisingly Chill Bosses
So, these gods. They're the ones who gave Ryoma this new life. They watch him from above. Like a reality TV show, but with divine intervention.
They seem pretty amused by his slime obsession. Honestly, same. I'd watch a whole show about slime husbandry.
But here's the thing: they’re not demanding. They aren’t pushing him towards some grand destiny. They just want him to...be happy. Can you imagine? Gods that just want you to chill?
The "Isekai" Twist: Not as Twisted as You Think
Yes, it's another isekai anime. Someone dies and gets transported to another world. We've seen it before. A lot.
But By the Grace of the Gods feels different. Ryoma isn't trying to be a hero. He’s not trying to conquer anything. He's just trying to live a peaceful life. A life of slime.
I like that. I like that he's not instantly overpowered. He's just a regular guy, doing his best. His best involves multiplying slimes to sell as cleaning service, though.
Is it Groundbreaking? Maybe Not. Is it Enjoyable? Absolutely.
This first episode isn't going to win any awards for originality. But it's charming. It's relaxing. It's the anime equivalent of a warm blanket.
Sometimes, that's all you need. No epic battles. No convoluted plot twists. Just a guy, some slimes, and a whole lot of potential.
I will say the character design is quite generic. However, the slimes designs are good, so I don't hate it. Plus, Ryoma seems like a genuinely nice guy. You want to root for him. Even if his goals are… unconventional.
So, should you watch it? If you're looking for a lighthearted, feel-good anime, then yes. Absolutely. Just don't expect a masterpiece. Expect a pleasant afternoon with some very cute slimes.
"Basically, if you've ever dreamed of being a slime rancher, this show is for you."
Plus, I can't wait to see what other kinds of slimes Ryoma discovers. Maybe fire slimes? Or healing slimes? The possibilities are endless! The slime potential is real.
