Okay, let's talk Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Specifically, the humans. I know, I know, everyone's obsessed with the robots in disguise. But hear me out!
The Usual Suspects (and My Hot Takes)
Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf)
Ah, Sam Witwicky. Our hero, sort of. He's awkward, he yells a lot, and he's constantly running from Decepticons. Is it just me, or did anyone else find him slightly...whiny?
Don't get me wrong, Shia LaBeouf is a talented actor. But Sam just wasn't my favorite cup of energon, if you catch my drift.
Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox)
Then we have Mikaela Banes, played by the iconic Megan Fox. Let's be honest, she was mostly there to look good next to fast cars and explosions.
I'm not hating! But her character development felt a little...lacking. Beautiful? Absolutely. Deeply complex? Not so much.
Captain Lennox (Josh Duhamel)
Captain Lennox, portrayed by Josh Duhamel, is the tough guy military leader. He's all about protecting the world from evil robots.
He's definitely a dependable dude. Although I was sometimes distracted by his perfect hair amidst all the chaos. Seriously, what's his secret?
Epps (Tyrese Gibson)
And who can forget Epps, played by Tyrese Gibson? He's the comic relief, always ready with a quip. The buddy to Lennox.
Honestly, Epps was probably my favorite human character. He added some much-needed levity to the whole "end of the world" scenario. Plus, he has the best lines!
The Supporting Cast (That Deserve More Love)
Agent Simmons (John Turturro)
Let's give it up for Agent Simmons! Played by the ever-eccentric John Turturro. This guy is a gem.
He's wacky, conspiracy-obsessed, and surprisingly helpful. He steals every scene he's in, and I'm not even mad about it. #SimmonsForPresident
Leo Spitz (Ramon Rodriguez)
Now, for a possibly unpopular opinion: I didn't hate Leo Spitz. Ramon Rodriguez did his best with what he was given.
Sure, he was annoying and panicky, but he was also kind of relatable. Who wouldn't freak out if they were suddenly caught in the middle of a robot war?
The Transformers Themselves (A Brief Aside)
Okay, I know this is supposed to be about the human cast, but we have to acknowledge the stars of the show: the Transformers!
Optimus Prime is noble and heroic. Megatron is menacing and evil. And the special effects are, well, explosive. What's not to love? (Besides maybe Devastator's...questionable anatomy.)
Final Thoughts
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen might not be a cinematic masterpiece. But it's definitely entertaining.
The human characters, flaws and all, add a certain charm (or at least a certain level of chaos) to the robot-on-robot action. And let's be real, we all secretly wanted to drive Bumblebee at some point, right?
