It feels like every episode follows the same script. Someone's on the brink. Maybe they have a rare disease. Maybe they fell off a building. Whatever the crisis, Dr. Halstead swoops in like a medical superhero.
The Halstead Hype
Seriously, is there anything Will Halstead can't do? Heart surgery in a janitor's closet? Check. Diagnosing a condition no one else has ever heard of? Double check. He's practically a medical Swiss Army knife.
And don't even get me started on his love life. He's dated, like, every female doctor in the hospital. Is it just me, or is that a little much? Maybe he should focus on saving lives, not finding his soulmate in the OR.
I'm not saying I dislike Halstead, okay? He's got that whole "charming rogue" thing going on. But sometimes I think, "Dude, let someone else have a turn!" Spread the heroism around a little, you know?
The Case of the Unrealistic Drama
Let's be honest, the medical dramas are a bit over the top. People are bleeding out while doctors engage in philosophical debates. I love drama, but sometimes it feels a little forced.
The show is riddled with improbable circumstances and events. Does this happen in real life? We can only hope not.
And what about the constant ethical dilemmas? Are patients in reality confronted with such a multitude of dilemmas?
Then there's the patients themselves. They are dying and screaming, yet they have perfect hair.
Other Doctors Exist, Right?
Dr. Manning. She always has a strong opinion. I do appreciate her devotion to her patients.
Dr. Choi. He is a strong guy and an ex navy doctor. It is always very interesting to see him involved.
Dr. Charles. He tries his best to figure people out. But can he?
"I Will Come To Save You": Overused Phrase?
Okay, let's talk about the actual phrase. "I will come to save you." How many times have we heard it? Is it the show's motto? Is it a medical student pledge?
I bet that the phrase is somewhere written in the hospital wall. Or maybe engraved in Dr. Halstead's stethoscope.
Sometimes, I wonder if the writers are just trying to hit a quota. "Gotta get the phrase in there! Fans will riot if we don't!"
Don't get me wrong, I am going to keep watching. Chicago Med is my guilty pleasure. But maybe, just maybe, they could switch it up a bit.
Maybe give Dr. Choi a super-diagnosis moment. Or let Dr. Manning win a staring contest with a stubborn patient. And, please, let's retire "I will come to save you."
