Okay, let's be honest. The Tournament of Power was EPIC. So many universes! So many fighters! But the English dub? *Sigh*.
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
I'm just going to say it. Sometimes, the English voice acting felt...off. Like, "trying too hard" off. Did anyone else feel that way?
Don't get me wrong, I respect the voice actors. They're pros! But some of the lines? They just didn't land the same way as the original Japanese. Maybe it's just me.
The Hype Was Real (But the Delivery...)
Think about it: Goku unlocking Ultra Instinct! A legendary moment, right? Should have been chilling!
But sometimes the delivery of the dialogue felt...strained. Almost like they were screaming *too* loud. It felt less like a spiritual awakening, and more like Goku had a really bad case of heartburn.
I am not saying the actors did a bad job, I am just saying that perhaps the lines were the problem.
That Power Level Tho!
And those power levels! In Dragon Ball, the hype is palpable, but it's also kinda silly. Like, who even *understands* what a power level of, say, eleventy billion means?
The English dub sometimes amplified the absurdity. Each scream was like nails on a chalkboard to me.
I get it. It's Dragon Ball. Over-the-top is the name of the game. But sometimes, less is more. Ya know?
Vegeta's Grunts: A Necessary Evil?
Let's talk about Vegeta. Specifically, his grunts. Iconic? Absolutely. Annoying after 131 episodes? Possibly.
The English dub seemed to really lean into the "grunt" factor. Every transformation, every punch, every existential crisis was punctuated with a guttural roar.
I love Vegeta, and I understand he is a Saiyan warrior that has to convey rage and anger. But man, did my ears need a break by the end.
Friendship! (And Lots of Yelling)
Ultimately, the Tournament of Power was about friendship. And overcoming your limits. And yelling. Lots and lots of yelling.
The English dub definitely nailed the "yelling" part. Maybe a little *too* well.
Look, I'm not saying the English dub ruined the Tournament of Power. It was still awesome! But sometimes, I wonder if a slightly more subdued approach would have made those epic moments even more impactful.
Am I Alone Here?
Is it just me? Does anyone else feel like the English dub occasionally missed the mark? Or am I destined to be forever labeled a heretic in the Dragon Ball fandom?
