Okay, Let's Talk About Endo and Kobayashi!
Confession time! I have a slightly…controversial opinion about Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. But hear me out!
It's cute. It's funny. The premise is genius: two high schoolers, Endo and Kobayashi, commentating on an otome game, accidentally helping a prince figure out his love interest.
Lieselotte: The Ice Queen We Love (to Thaw)
Lieselotte, the titular villainess, is wonderfully tsundere. She’s harsh on the outside, soft on the inside. You know the type!
We all love watching her slowly melt under Prince Siegwald’s growing affection. It’s a classic trope done well.
But…and this is where the unpopular opinion comes in…sometimes, the constant commentary got a little…much.
Did We *Really* Need the Play-by-Play?
Don’t hate me! Endo and Kobayashi's commentary is what makes the show unique. It’s their observations that drive the plot forward.
They reveal Lieselotte's true feelings. They decode Siegwald’s actions. They're essentially the audience's inside voices.
But sometimes I just wanted to watch the romance unfold. Did we need a running commentary on every single blush?
I'm sure some of you are screaming "Yes!" at your screens right now. And that's perfectly valid!
The Comedy: A Double-Edged Sword?
The humor is spot-on. Kobayashi's fangirling is endlessly relatable. Endo's deadpan reactions are hilarious.
Their banter is genuinely funny. It’s what kept me hooked, even when I wanted to strangle them (affectionately, of course).
But the constant jokes occasionally undercut the emotional weight of certain scenes. Imagine a serious moment, punctuated by "OMG, did you SEE that flinch?!"
Siegwald: A Prince Worth Saving (From Himself?)
Prince Siegwald is…well, he's a bit dense, isn't he? Without Endo and Kobayashi, he'd be completely lost. He'd misinterpret every single thing Lieselotte did.
It’s endearing, in a way. But sometimes you just want to shake him and yell, "She likes you, you idiot!"
The commentators definitely saved him from making a huge mess of things. They are the real MVPs!
Final Thoughts: A Fun, Flawed Gem
Look, Endo and Kobayashi Live! is a fun show. It’s clever, it’s charming, and it’s undeniably entertaining.
The voice acting is superb. The animation is gorgeous. The premise is fresh and original.
I just think that, at times, the commentary got a little overbearing. Maybe I just wanted a bit more quiet time with Lieselotte and Siegwald.
So, am I the only one who felt this way? Or are there others out there who occasionally wanted Endo and Kobayashi to just…shush for a minute?
I'm ready for the backlash! Bring it on! Maybe I'll just rewatch the show with the volume down low... just kidding! (Mostly.)
