Okay, Hear Me Out... About That *Harry Potter* Finale on ITV
So, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was on ITV again last night. And you know what? I have some thoughts. Maybe even some slightly controversial thoughts. Don't hate me!
Everyone acts like it's the *best movie ever*. Like, Voldemort's final showdown is a cinematic masterpiece. Is it good? Yeah, probably. But flawless? Mmm, I'm not so sure.
The Battle of Hogwarts... A Little Anticlimactic?
The Battle of Hogwarts is supposed to be this epic, earth-shattering clash. Good versus evil on a grand scale! But sometimes, watching it on TV... it feels a little... small?
Like, where did all the extra wizards come from? Did McGonagall just pop outside and yell, "Anyone fancy a bit of wizarding warfare?" Was their recruitment process thorough? Questions, questions...
And don't even get me started on the CGI. Some of it has aged like milk left out in the sun. Those trolls look like they escaped from a PS2 game. Sorry, not sorry!
Snape: Still a Jerk, Even When He's a Hero
Okay, Alan Rickman as Snape? Perfect casting. No notes. But Snape himself? I’m still conflicted!
We find out he secretly loved Lily. He protected Harry. But he was also incredibly mean to Neville! And Harry Potter for six years. Talk about a toxic workplace.
Is he a hero? Maybe. Is he a complicated character? Definitely. Would I want him as my Potions teacher? Absolutely not. I'd rather be taught by a house elf.
Harry's Big Speech: Snooze Fest?
Remember when Harry confronts Voldemort in the courtyard? He gives this whole speech about love and the power of good. Blah, blah, blah.
Look, I get it. It's the message of the whole series. But couldn’t he have just, you know, Avada Kedavra’d him already? The dramatic monologue felt a tad drawn out. Less talking, more wand-waving, please!
Neville Longbottom: The Real MVP
Okay, unpopular opinion time. Neville Longbottom is the real hero of Deathly Hallows Part 2. He pulls the Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat. He kills Nagini!
He stands up to Voldemort. He basically saves the day. Harry gets all the glory, but Neville deserves a medal. And maybe a lifetime supply of Mimbulus Mimbletonia.
The Epilogue: So. Much. Hair.
That epilogue, though. Everyone's suddenly aged about 30 years. And the hair! Goodness, the hair. Where did they get those wigs?
Suddenly all the kids look like they're auditioning for a retirement home commercial. And why is everyone so smug? Did they all just win the lottery?
Plus, that little Albus Severus Potter worrying about being in Slytherin? Honey, you're a Potter! Relax! You'll be fine. Just don't be a jerk.
Final Thoughts: Still Love It, But...
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy watching Deathly Hallows Part 2. But it's not perfect. Some bits are a bit cheesy. Some CGI has aged badly. Some characters act like complete tools.
But hey, it's the end of an era. The conclusion to a beloved story. And sometimes, even flawed finales can be pretty magical. Just maybe don't tell everyone I said that.
