Did We All Miss Something in *High School DxD* Season 4 Episode 6?
Okay, hear me out. I know Season 4 of High School DxD gets a *lot* of flak. Especially that animation change. But let’s talk about Episode 6, specifically.
Was it perfect? Nope. But did it deserve *all* the hate it got? I'm not so sure.
The Plot Thickens (Or Does It?)
Basically, Issei's still training. Rias is being Rias. The whole gang's trying to figure out what's next. Standard *DxD* fare, right?
But this is when the Hero Faction's involvement got more noticeable. We see a bit more of their plans and the consequences start to affect the main crew.
Was the pacing a little weird? Maybe. But I think it set the stage for the bigger battles to come. Think of it as a chess game. You need to move the pawns before the queens can go to work.
Animation Woes (Yeah, We Know)
Let's address the elephant in the room: the animation. It's different. Like, *really* different. It's not the style fans had come to love from the previous seasons.
Admittedly, the character designs are very distinct. I get it. But was it *so* bad it ruined the whole episode? I'm not convinced. I think it took some getting used to.
It's not about accepting mediocrity. It's about trying to find something to enjoy despite it. I think some scenes were still hilarious, even if the art style wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
The Humor Still Lands (For the Most Part)
*High School DxD* is, at its heart, a comedy with action and a *lot* of fan service. Did Episode 6 lose that? I don't think so.
Issei's perverted antics were still there. The awkwardness between him and Rias was palpable. Asia still being adorable. The comedy was still there, even if it was downplayed.
Some people claim the dialogue became bland. I can see their point but I do not agree with them. I'll defend the fun nature of this episode.
Rias and Akeno's Beauty is Still Recognizable
The main thing that made me watch *High School DxD* was the beautiful ladies in it. The changes to the animation style does not take their beauty away.
I find that their personalities are very well reflected in their faces and actions.
The show is more than just the animation of the characters, but rather their behaviors as well. These are all taken in to consideration when I watch it.
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Okay, so here's my controversial take. I think Episode 6 was…fine. Not amazing, not terrible, just *fine*. A decent stepping stone on the path to the grand finale.
Maybe we were all too harsh on it because of the overall disappointment with the season. I mean, the whole season wasn't perfect, but this single episode deserves a second look.
Maybe it's time we re-evaluated Episode 6 with fresh eyes. Let's focus on the story progression and the humor, instead of dwelling on the animation. What do you think? Am I crazy?
Final Thoughts
Look, I'm not saying Episode 6 is a masterpiece. I'm just saying it might be better than we remember. Maybe nostalgia or bias is clouding our judgment. I still think that High School DxD is a great anime.
Give it another watch. See if you feel the same. Or don't. Your call. But who knows, you might just find something to enjoy.
After all, isn't a little bit of *DxD* better than no *DxD* at all?
