Okay, let's talk about The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The original, the animated one, that is. We all love it, right? But I have a question. How long is too long?
Officially, the special runs about 26 minutes. Twenty-six glorious minutes of Grinchy goodness. But hear me out.
Is It Really That Short?
Think about it. You settle in with your hot cocoa. The snow is falling. You're ready for some serious Whoville cheer. And then…it's over.
Before you can even sing along properly to "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," it's credits time! I feel like it flies by. Is it just me?
Maybe it's because it's so packed with iconic moments. Or maybe it's the catchy songs. Whatever it is, I'm always left wanting more.
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Here's where things might get controversial. I think The Grinch is too short! Yes, I said it.
I know, I know. It's a classic. Perfectly formed. Blah, blah, blah. But come on, couldn't we have had a few more minutes of Max the dog? He is so cute.
Or maybe a deeper dive into the Grinch's backstory? We get a little glimpse, but I'm greedy. I want the whole story!
Think about it. A whole hour of Grinchy goodness! Imagine the extra songs! The expanded plot! The possibilities are endless.
The Live-Action Grinch: A Cautionary Tale
Okay, before you start sharpening your pitchforks, let's address the elephant in the room. The Jim Carrey version.
That one is definitely not too short. In fact, some might argue it's too long. A lot too long. Did we really need all those extra scenes?
It's a case of be careful what you wish for. More Grinch doesn't always equal better Grinch.
Finding the Perfect Grinch Length
So, maybe an hour is too much. But 26 minutes feels like a tease. Is there a happy medium? A Grinchy Goldilocks zone?
Perhaps a 45-minute runtime would be perfect. Enough time to flesh out the story. But not so much that it loses its charm.
We could get a few more character moments. Maybe even a subplot involving a Who and a lost Christmas present! Just spit balling here!
Ultimately, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is a masterpiece. No matter how long (or short) it is.
It's a reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. And a testament to the power of a good story. And Dr. Seuss's awesome creativity.
But still... a few extra minutes wouldn't hurt, right? I just want to see more of Cindy Lou Who being adorable!
So next time you watch The Grinch, pay attention to the time. See if you agree with me. Is it too short? Or is it perfectly Grinchy just the way it is?
Let me know what you think. Maybe we can start a petition! #MoreGrinch #GrinchPetition #IsItTooShort?
Regardless, Happy Holidays! May your heart grow three sizes this year (but not so big that you explode!). And remember to be kind to the Grinch inside all of us.
And seriously, someone give Max a raise!
