It has a dedicated fanbase. We, the weirdos, are loyal! We'll binge, rewatch, and tell everyone we know to watch. Word of mouth is powerful.
The show is critically acclaimed. Reviewers love the writing, the acting, and the sheer audacity of it all. That has to count for something.
HBO Max seems to appreciate unique content. They've given other oddball shows a chance. Maybe Doom Patrol fits that bill.

Here's where I brace for impact. I think the quality has dipped slightly in later seasons. Don't get me wrong, I still love it!
But those first two seasons? Absolute perfection. The writing felt tighter, the characters more grounded (relatively speaking, of course).
