Revenge: Season 4 - How Many Episodes Did We *Really* Need?
Okay, let's talk Revenge. Specifically, season four. Remember Emily Thorne's grand plan?
We all loved the drama, the Hampton's scenery, and of course, the backstabbing. But let's be honest, things got a little… long.
The Big Question: 23 Episodes?!
So, how many episodes did season four actually have? A whopping 23! Yes, you read that right.
Twenty-three chances for Victoria Grayson to scheme. Twenty-three opportunities for double-crossings and shocking reveals.
Did we really need that many? Hmm…
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here's where I might lose some of you. Brace yourselves. I think season four could have been tighter.
Maybe even… better. Shorter seasons aren't always bad. Think of the pacing!
Imagine: less filler, more killer (pun intended!).
The Pacing Problem
Let's face it, some episodes felt like they were just… there. Treadmilling along, not really moving the plot forward.
We got a little lost in the weeds. Side plots took over. Remember that weird subplot with… well, never mind.
It's like the writers threw everything at the wall to see what would stick.
What Could Have Been?
Imagine a lean, mean, 15-episode season four. Focused. Razor-sharp. Intense!
Every episode would have felt crucial. Every scene would have mattered. The suspense would have been unbearable.
Emily's revenge would have been even sweeter.
The Network TV Trap
Of course, we can't totally blame the writers. Network TV demands a certain number of episodes.
They have to fill those time slots somehow. Ads to sell. Ratings to chase. The machine must be fed.
But still… twenty-three?
The Ending, Though…
Okay, okay, I'll admit, the ending was pretty good. Bittersweet. Poetic. Finally putting things to rest.
Emily finally got her happily ever after (sort of). Victoria met her (somewhat deserved) end.
But even a great ending can't totally erase the feeling that we took a bit of a scenic route getting there.
Would We Still Watch It?
Absolutely! Despite my gripes, I still love Revenge. I'd watch Emily and her elaborate schemes any day.
The show is pure escapism. The drama is addictive. The fashion is fabulous.
But sometimes, a little less is more, right?
Final Verdict: Too Much Revenge?
So, was season four too long? I think so. Could it have been more impactful with fewer episodes? Definitely.
Maybe I'm just impatient. Maybe I have a short attention span. Or maybe, just maybe, Revenge could have stuck the landing even harder with a tighter final season.
What do you think? Am I alone in this? Let me know!
Ultimately, Revenge Season 4 gave us 23 episodes.
