Let's talk about babies. Specifically, The Baby. You know, that HBO/Sky series?
So, how many episodes are we dealing with? The "official" answer is easy to find. Eight. But is that really the answer?
The Obvious Answer: Eight
Yep, The Baby season one has eight episodes. Done and dusted, right? Wrong!
Hear me out. This isn't about technicalities. It's about… well, baby fatigue.
My Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves!)
Okay, here it comes. Eight episodes felt like… a lot. Maybe too much?
Don't get me wrong! The premise was amazing. A possessed baby? Hilarious and creepy.
But somewhere along the way, the novelty started to… wear off a tiny bit.
The "Baby Burnout" Factor
Think about it. Each episode focused on similar themes. Death. Mayhem. That baby.
After a while, you start to anticipate the chaos. The surprises become… less surprising.
Is it just me, or did anyone else start feeling a little "baby burnout"? I need a vacation after that baby.
Would Fewer Episodes Have Been Better?
This is where I get controversial. I think so! Maybe six episodes?
That would have kept the story tighter. Pacing would be punchier. Less filler, more killer baby.
Less time to overthink the plot holes. I can get behind that!
The Repetitive Nature
Admit it. There was a certain repetitiveness. Baby arrives. Someone dies (usually). Mayhem ensues.
Rinse and repeat. While darkly comedic, it became predictable.
Don't get me wrong, the acting was superb! Especially Michelle de Swarte. But even great actors can't save a slightly repetitive plot.
Plot Holes Galore!
Let's not forget the plot holes. The show had it's moments but you can't ignore the question marks.
Some things just didn't quite add up, did they? Perhaps this is the point. A baby and its story isn't always supposed to make sense.
But still, I can't deny the confusion and frustration it brought. Maybe a slightly tighter story could have helped solve these plot mysteries.
So, How Many Episodes Really?
Officially? Eight. In my heart? Maybe six. Or even a really, really long movie.
It all depends on your tolerance for baby-induced chaos. And how much sleep you've had lately.
Ultimately, The Baby was entertaining and thought-provoking. But maybe, just maybe, less would have been more.
Perhaps less chaos and slightly better explained plot points is what The Baby needed.
