Okay, let's talk The Walking Dead. Zombies. Rick. Negan. You know, the whole shebang.
But specifically, let's talk about how many episodes there freaking are. Seriously.
How Many Episodes, Really?
Officially? AMC says it's 177 episodes across 11 seasons. Sounds like a lot, right?
It is. It's an absurd amount of television.
My (Possibly Unpopular) Opinion
Here's where I might lose some of you. Buckle up.
I think The Walking Dead should have been, like, half that length. Maybe even less!
Don't get me wrong, the first few seasons were gold. Rick Grimes was captivating.
The suspense? Chef's kiss. But then...
Things got a little...repetitive. You know, the whole "find safe place, lose safe place, fight zombies, repeat" cycle.
It felt like some seasons were just filler. Walking dead? More like dragging dead.
The Great Character Shuffle
Characters came and went faster than you could say "walker." Who even remembers everyone's name at this point?
Seriously, I had to Google half the cast before writing this. No shame.
And those characters we actually cared about? They got put through the wringer! Daryl deserved a permanent vacation.
Could Less Have Been More?
Imagine if The Walking Dead had a tighter narrative.
Imagine fewer filler episodes, more focused storytelling. Could it have been a legendary show?
I think so. A lean, mean, zombie-killing machine of a series.
Instead, we got 177 episodes. That’s like, two weeks of non-stop zombie action. Who has time for that?
The Verdict
Look, I get it. People loved it. It was a cultural phenomenon.
I also get that it's based on a long-running comic book series. They had source material to burn through.
But still, I stand by my opinion. The Walking Dead overstayed its welcome.
Maybe 100 episodes would have been the sweet spot. Just enough to tell the main story and leave us wanting more.
Instead, we got…well, we got 177. And spin-offs! Don't even get me started.
Let's Agree to Disagree
So, how many episodes of The Walking Dead is *too* many? For me, it's anything over 100.
You might disagree, and that's perfectly fine. We can still be friends (as long as you don't try to bite me).
Ultimately, it's all subjective. Enjoy what you enjoy.
Just…maybe skip a few of the filler episodes. Your sanity will thank you. And Rick would probably agree.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go re-watch season one. Back when things were simple (and zombies were actually scary).
