Okay, let's talk about Death Note. Specifically, Light Yagami. The guy with the most stylish murder weapon ever. But this isn't about morality. Or apples. It's about age.
How Old *Is* Light, Really?
We know he's, like, 17 at the start. Smart kid. Hates crime. Finds a magical notebook. Standard teen stuff. But humor me for a second.
Think about his wardrobe. Seriously. Jeans and a button-down? Sounds like a 40 year old man trying to be hip. I'm just saying.
And that haircut! Is that a style, or did his mom just give him a trim every few months? The debate rages on. We might never know.
The 'Mature' Mindset
Okay, unpopular opinion time: Light acts way older than he is. Way, way older. He's calculating. Manipulative. A little bit judgy.
Seventeen-year-olds are usually, you know, worried about prom. Or getting their driver's license. Not creating a new world order! Where is he even finding time for his homework?
He's got this "I know better than everyone" thing going on. Sound familiar? Maybe your dad at Thanksgiving? I'm just throwing it out there.
Existential Angst on Overdrive
And the philosophical angst! Every teen has a little existential crisis. But Light's is on another level. He's practically Nietzsche in a school uniform.
He contemplates the nature of good and evil! He wrestles with moral dilemmas! He does all of this while studying for entrance exams! When did this kid sleep?
It's like he skipped the whole "awkward phase" and went straight to "world-weary sage". Did he even have a social life outside of solving crimes?
The Verdict (Maybe)
So, here's my controversial take: Light Yagami is mentally, like, 45. Stuck in a teenage body. It explains so much. Especially his patience with Ryuk's antics.
I mean, a teenager dealing with a shinigami who's obsessed with apples? That's a recipe for disaster. But Light just rolls with it! The calmness! The control!
Maybe it's the power of the Death Note. Maybe it's just good writing. Or maybe Light is secretly a middle-aged man in disguise. I'm not ruling anything out.
Maybe this is why L found him so suspicious. He knew something was up! I think he also suspected Light did not like sugar.
So, the next time you watch Death Note, remember this. Underneath that schoolboy facade, there's a weary soul who's probably seen it all. Or at least read about it in a really boring textbook.
Don't tell me I'm wrong. You know I'm onto something. And besides, wouldn't that make Death Note even more interesting? Food for thought.
Think about it, maybe it wasn't power that corrupted him, but being forced to relive his teenage years...again.
