How Old Was Will Smith In I Robot

Remember I, Robot?

That movie was awesome, right? Robots, explosions, and Will Smith being all cool and detective-y.

But something's always bugged me. Something about how old Will Smith was supposed to be in that movie.

Okay, so I, Robot is set in 2035. The movie came out in 2004.

Will Smith was born in 1968. This is easily googleable, don't worry, I checked.

That makes him about 36 years old when the movie was released. So, how old was he playing in the film?

Here's where I get controversial. I think Will Smith, as Detective Spooner, was supposed to be, like... early 30s? Maybe even late 20s?

Hear me out! Spooner is portrayed as being a bit of a maverick, still fairly early in his career.

He's got that youthful energy, the rebellious streak. It just doesn't scream mid-30s to me.

Maybe it's the way he runs, jumps, and generally throws himself around. That's definitely a younger man's game.

I know, I know. The robot accident. The trauma. That could age a guy.

But I still think his attitude and general vibe were more "young, cocky cop" than "world-weary veteran."

He was too quippy and sarcastic to be properly jaded!

Let's be real. Hollywood's never been entirely truthful about age.

Actors routinely play characters younger (or older!) than they actually are. It's called acting, after all.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe 36 is the perfect age for a robot-hating detective in 2035. But I stand by my point!

Alright, hair is the answer. Think about it. Fresh Prince days he looked like a teen right? In I, Robot, his hair is short and styled to look young.

Will Smith's hairline in that movie just seems too... defined for someone pushing 40. It's like they deliberately de-aged him with hair product.

Maybe that's all the evidence I need!
