Okay, let's talk Gold Kanto Medal. We all want it. It screams, "I was there, battling Pidgeys before it was cool!"
Catch 'Em All (Eventually)
First, you need 151 Pokemon. I know, easier said than done. Especially when Mr. Mime feels like a myth.
Here's my controversial opinion: Trade. Yes, I said it. Some Pokemon are region-locked. Beg a friend who traveled to Europe. Just saying!
Embrace the Grind
Next up are the evolutions. Stock up on those Pidgey candies. Remember the good old days of mass evolving?
Don't forget about Pokemon like Eevee. You need all the evolutions. Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon and Umbreon are all included. Better start walking those Eevee!
My unpopular opinion: Name trick is overrated. Save it for shinies. Embrace the random evolution. Live a little!
Special Research is Your Friend
Keep an eye out for Special Research tasks. They can help you get closer to some of those harder-to-find Pokemon.
Professor Willow sometimes throws us a bone. Do those tasks! They might lead you to a Ditto or something equally elusive.
I also think using the daily adventure incense is a good call. One can never know what kind of mysterious Pokemon will show up.
Trading: The Social Butterfly Route
Remember trading? Find someone with a Kangaskhan. Or a Tauros. Or heck, even a spare Porygon.
Seriously, join a local Pokemon GO group. It's not just for raids. People trade! Embrace the community. You might make a friend (and complete your Kanto Dex!).
My controversial opinion: Offering a shiny for a Mr. Mime isn't crazy. It's strategic. It's desperation.
Raids and Events: Your Allies
Keep an eye out for events. They often feature Kanto Pokemon. Now is the time to hunt for those rare spawns.
Sometimes, specific Pokemon will be featured in raids. This is your chance! Gather your raid buddies and take them down!
Do not forget that timed research usually gives you some opportunity to get specific Kanto Pokemon.
Don't Give Up!
Getting that Gold Kanto Medal takes time. And patience. And maybe a little bit of luck.
But it's totally worth it. Bragging rights are priceless. You also get the satisfaction of completing a major Pokemon GO goal.
My unpopular opinion: It's okay to take a break. Burnout is real. Just don't stay away too long. Mewtwo awaits!
Accept the Unpopular
Finally, be ok with things. There is some heavy reliance on RNG. Things that are out of your control will be out of your control. Just keep trying!
Good luck, trainers! Go catch 'em all! And may your Pidgey candies always be plentiful.
