So, you wanna dive into the wild and wonderful world of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga? Awesome choice! But where do you even begin with this multi-generational saga?
Don't worry, it's easier than you think. Forget complex timelines for a sec, we're going for pure reading enjoyment.
The Stone Mask Saga: Parts 1-6
First up: Part 1: Phantom Blood. Think Victorian England meets vampires and martial arts. It's a classic origin story that introduces the Joestar family and their eternal rivalry with Dio Brando.
Next, Part 2: Battle Tendency. Joseph Joestar, a total trickster, takes center stage. Expect ancient beings, over-the-top poses, and pure unadulterated fun.
Part 3: Stardust Crusaders is where things get really...bizarre. Stands, which are physical manifestations of fighting spirit, are introduced. Jotaro Kujo leads a crew to defeat Dio (who's back somehow!), traveling across the world.
Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable slows things down in the peaceful town of Morioh. Josuke Higashikata, another Joestar, deals with a series of strange and often hilarious incidents.
Then, Part 5: Golden Wind brings us to Italy. Giorno Giovanna, Dio's son (yup, you read that right), wants to become a gangster to make the city a better place. Mafia fights, beautiful art, and a whole lot of "Ari Ari Ari Arrivederci!"
Finally, Part 6: Stone Ocean puts Jolyne Cujoh, Jotaro's daughter, in prison. This part gets wild, philosophical, and features some of the most memorable Stand battles in the series.
The Alternate Universe: Parts 7-9
Ready for a reboot? Part 7: Steel Ball Run takes place in an alternate universe and follows Johnny Joestar as he participates in a cross-country horse race. Think cowboys, Stand powers, and a surprising amount of heart.
Then comes Part 8: JoJolion, set in the same universe as Steel Ball Run. This one is a bit of a mystery box, with amnesiac Josuke Higashikata (again!) trying to uncover his identity in Morioh (again!).
Currently ongoing is Part 9: The JoJoLands. We are still very early on but this is already shaping up to be an incredible experience. Following the story of Jodio Joestar as he finds his way.
Important Notes (But Not *Too* Important)
Some people debate the best reading order. Honestly? Start with Part 1. If you don't dig the art style, jump to Part 3 or 4.
Each part is mostly self-contained. Characters might reappear, and there are themes that run throughout, but you can generally jump in where you like.
Don't overthink it! Just pick a part that looks interesting and go for it. The important thing is to experience the sheer joy and weirdness that is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Whether it's the outrageous fashion, the iconic poses, or the surprisingly heartwarming moments between characters, JoJo offers something for everyone. So grab a manga volume, strike a fabulous pose, and prepare for the ride of your life!
