Dexter's Back... Again? The Saga Continues!
Remember Dexter? The friendly neighborhood blood spatter analyst who, uh, moonlighted as a vigilante serial killer? Well, grab your plastic wrap, because the whispers are swirling: could there be more?
After a finale that left many fans scratching their heads (and some throwing their remotes at the TV), Dexter seemingly hung up his kill kit. Then, BAM! He reappeared in Dexter: New Blood, sporting a beard and a new life in snowy New York.
So, What's the Buzz?
Dexter: New Blood was marketed as a limited series. That usually means "one and done." But, as any good TV executive knows, money talks.
The ratings for New Blood were surprisingly good. Like, "holy-Miami-Metro-Police-Department-that's-a-lot-of-viewers" good. This, naturally, got the suits at Showtime thinking.
Here's where it gets a little complicated, but don't worry, we'll keep it simple. Showtime is now part of Paramount+. Think of it like your favorite ice cream shop merging with a giant soda company. More options, but same sugar rush!
With the merger came changes, including a potential shift in strategy. Paramount+ is hungry for content, and a proven franchise like Dexter is mighty tempting.
Debra's Dilemma (and Ours!)
One of the biggest questions is: what would a new season even look like? Dexter: New Blood ended with (spoiler alert!) Dexter meeting his demise at the hands of his own son, Harrison.
Could Harrison be the new lead? A "Dexter Jr." if you will? That's one possibility being tossed around. Imagine him battling his own Dark Passenger while trying to navigate high school. Talk about drama!
Or maybe the new season will focus on a different killer entirely, with some connection to the original series. Think of it as the Dexter-verse expanding. Debra Morgan could even return as an omnipresent conscious.
Speaking of Debra, Jennifer Carpenter's portrayal of Dexter's sister was phenomenal. Her reappearance as Dexter's conscience in New Blood added a whole new layer of intensity. But does anyone want to see the same formula repeated?
The Verdict? (Maybe!)
As of right now, there's no official word on another season. But, Hollywood is a fickle beast. Never say never, especially when a franchise has this much potential.
Until then, we can all keep speculating, re-watching old episodes, and arguing about that original ending. And who knows, maybe one day we'll see Dexter Morgan back on our screens, ready to clean up the streets... one plastic-wrapped room at a time. Or maybe it will be his son, Harrison, picking up where his father left off!
