Killing Eve: Season 1 - Was It Too Short? (Gasp!)
Okay, okay, hear me out. I know. Killing Eve season 1. A masterpiece. We all agree, right?
But... was it just a tad too short? Dare I even utter such blasphemy?
The Magical Number: Eight
Yes, season one graced us with a perfectly formed eight episodes. Eight glorious episodes of Eve Polastri and Villanelle playing cat and mouse.
Eight episodes of dark humor and shocking fashion choices. Eight episodes that left us utterly hooked.
But is it an unpopular opinion that maybe, just maybe, we deserved a little more?
The Case for More Chaos
Think about it. The show's premise is fantastic. A bored MI6 operative hunting a psychopathic assassin. Pure gold!
With more episodes, we could have seen even more bizarre kills.
More awkward and hilarious interactions between Eve and her colleagues. More fabulous Villanelle outfits! More of the incredible Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.
The Thrill of the Chase (Extended Edition?)
The cat-and-mouse game is what makes Killing Eve so compelling. What if that game got stretched out a bit?
Imagine more international locations. More elaborate schemes. More near-misses that left us on the edge of our seats.
Wouldn't that be amazing?
Don't Hate Me, But...
I'm not saying season one wasn't brilliant. It was! I binged it like everyone else. But maybe a few extra episodes wouldn't have hurt.
Maybe it would have allowed for more character development beyond the main characters.
Maybe it would have given us even more time to revel in the show's unique tone.
The Argument for Brevity
Of course, some will argue that the show's brevity is part of its charm. That it packs a punch because it doesn't waste any time.
That's a valid point. No filler episodes here!
Every scene is carefully crafted to move the story forward and keep us guessing.
Quality Over Quantity (Usually)
Normally, I'm all about quality over quantity. I hate it when shows drag on and lose their way.
But Killing Eve is different. It's so well-written and well-acted that I could watch it for days. Okay, maybe not days, but you get the idea.
It sets a high standard with its dark humor and compelling plots.
So, Was Eight Enough?
Ultimately, the answer is subjective. Some will be perfectly happy with eight episodes. Others, like me, will always want more.
Maybe I'm just greedy. Maybe I'm just obsessed with Villanelle's wardrobe.
Whatever the reason, I can't help but wonder what could have been with a slightly longer season one. Now, please don't throw tomatoes!
The Final Verdict
Killing Eve season 1 is a masterpiece. This cannot be argued.
But did it have the potential for being an even more expanded masterpiece? Well, that's what I think.
And you might disagree! Let the debate begin!
