Okay, let's talk about Lost in Space, Season 1, Episode 4. "Stranded." Seems appropriate, right? Because, you know, they're... lost in space. Groundbreaking.
This is where things started to get...interesting. By "interesting," I mean I started yelling at my TV. Loudly.
The Robot's Identity Crisis
The Robot continues to be a mystery box. He's all cryptic and moody. Like a teenager, but with lasers. Did anyone else find him strangely adorable when he was all broken and sparking?
Will Robinson and His Metal Pal
Will Robinson's bond with the Robot is at the core of the show. It's supposed to be heartwarming. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it feels a little…forced.
Okay, here's my potentially unpopular opinion: I'm not 100% sold on Will. He's fine! He's just... kinda there. Maybe it’s just the writing.
But the Robot? I'd trust that bucket of bolts with my life. And maybe my taxes.
Maureen Robinson: The Ultimate Mom
Maureen Robinson is a badass. Seriously. She's a mom, an engineer, and a survivalist all rolled into one. She makes MacGyver look like he's playing with Legos.
That said, sometimes her decisions make me scratch my head. She's so focused on the mission. Does she ever just want to chill and read a magazine?
I secretly suspect she packs a emergency supply of chocolate. No one is that calm under pressure without some form of secret indulgence.
John Robinson: The Stoic Dad
John Robinson is the strong, silent type. A former Navy SEAL. He's built to take on the universe. He also has trouble expressing emotions.
He tries. Bless his heart. But communication isn't his strong suit. Therapy, John. Therapy might help.
I want to cut him some slack. Trauma and space adventures can make you kinda emotionally stunted. It is what it is.
The Cliffhanger That Wasn't
This episode ends with them discovering something…significant. A wrecked ship! Cue the dramatic music!
But did I feel the suspense? Eh, not really. I was too busy wondering what happened to the ship's crew. Did they have snacks?
Maybe it's because I know there's a whole season ahead. Or maybe I'm just jaded after watching too much TV. Either way, the cliffhanger landed a little flat for me.
Dr. Smith: Still Sketchy
Let's not forget Dr. Smith! She's the wildcard. The walking, talking chaos agent. Every scene with her makes me uneasy.
She’s sneaky and manipulative. You're never quite sure what she's up to. She is clearly not to be trusted.
But that's what makes her interesting, right? A villain we love to hate. Or, in my case, a villain I just tolerate.
Overall Thoughts
"Stranded" is a decent episode. It moves the plot forward. We learn a bit more about the characters. But it wasn't a home run.
It felt like set-up for bigger things. Which is fine. But I wanted a little more "oomph."
So, was I entertained? Yes. Will I keep watching? Absolutely. I'm too invested now. Plus, I need to see more of that Robot. He is the Robot after all.
