Okay, let's talk about the My Hero Academia Season 5 Blu-ray. I know, I know. It's been out for a while. But I just rewatched it, and I have thoughts. Potentially controversial thoughts. Buckle up!
The Joint Training Arc: Hype vs. Reality
Remember all the hype leading up to the Joint Training Arc? Class 1-A versus Class 1-B! It was supposed to be epic! I mean, it was good. Just… not as good as I hoped.
Don't get me wrong. Seeing characters like Shinsou getting some spotlight was awesome. And Monoma's copying quirk? Hilariously annoying. But sometimes, it felt like the plot was spinning its wheels.
Maybe I was just expecting too much. Perhaps all the build-up created unrealistic expectations. Did anyone else feel this way? Or am I the only one clinging to this unpopular opinion?
The Animation...and Some Missed Opportunities?
Visually, the Blu-ray looks fantastic. The fight scenes pop. The character designs are crisp. Studio Bones always delivers, right?
However, even with the improved visuals, I couldn’t help but feel that some of the fights were a little… short? Like, I wanted more! I wanted to see more creative uses of quirks. I wanted more dramatic tension!
Also, anyone else think they could have done more with certain character interactions? The potential for comedy and character development was massive. But sometimes, it felt like they just scratched the surface.
The Meta Liberation Army Arc: A Change of Pace (and Controversy)
Then came the Meta Liberation Army arc. Now this, this was a different beast entirely. This is where opinions really start to diverge.
A lot of people had issues with the pacing here. Some felt like it dragged on. Others thought it was a necessary deep dive into the villain's motivations. I’m still on the fence.
On one hand, understanding the villains is crucial. On the other hand...did we need that much internal monologue? Maybe a little less talking, a little more punching?
The Blu-ray Extras: Worth the Upgrade?
Let's talk about the extras. The Blu-ray boasts all the usual goodies. Commentaries, trailers, maybe some behind-the-scenes stuff.
Are they worth the upgrade? Depends on how much of a My Hero Academia superfan you are. If you love diving deep into the production process, then definitely! If not, maybe stick with the streaming version.
Personally, I always enjoy hearing the voice actors talk about their characters. It gives me a whole new appreciation for their performances. So, for me, it's a win!
Final Verdict: Still Plus Ultra?
So, is the My Hero Academia Season 5 Blu-ray worth buying? Absolutely. Even with its flaws (and what show doesn't have them?), it's still My Hero Academia.
The animation is top-notch. The characters are lovable (even the annoying ones). And the story, while occasionally meandering, is still compelling.
Plus, owning it on Blu-ray means you can rewatch it whenever you want. No buffering, no ads. Just pure, unadulterated superhero goodness. Even if I secretly fast-forward through some of the villain monologues.
Is it the best season of My Hero Academia? Maybe not. But it's still a solid entry in the series. And honestly, any My Hero Academia is good My Hero Academia, right?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch the Sports Festival arc. Because that's objectively the best arc. Don't @ me.
