Finally! The Heroes are BACK (and Talking English!)
Okay, heroes. Let's be real. We've all been waiting. Patiently? Maybe. Anxiously refreshing our streaming services? Definitely.
The My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 1 dub dropped. Cue the celebratory music! Time to scream "PLUS ULTRA!" at our screens. (Quietly, if it's late. Don't wake the neighbors.)
The Dub Debacle (or Not?)
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Subs are superior!" Hear me out before you unleash your inner Bakugo rage.
I love the original voice acting. The Japanese VAs are amazing! But sometimes, I just want to... chill. You know? I don’t want to *read* my explosions.
Call me lazy. Call me a heretic. I'm embracing the dub! Especially after a long day of *actual* hero work (aka, surviving the work week).
English voice actors have to bring their A-game. They have to capture all of the emotions we felt while watching original series.
Deku's Voice: Is it Still Wholesome?
Let's talk about Deku. The heart of the show! Does his English voice still make you want to protect him from the world?
Does he still sound like a sweet potato with aspirations? I'd say yes. (Sweet potatoes are good, BTW. Don't @ me.)
I think Justin Briner is doing a great job giving life to Izuku Midoriya.
Bakugo's Explosions: Now in English!
And then there's Bakugo. King Explosion Murder himself. Can the English VA capture his... unique charm?
The screaming? The rage? The surprisingly strategic mind hidden beneath layers of "DIE!"? It's a tall order.
But I gotta say, the English dub nails it! It delivers the same explosiveness!
Unpopular Opinion Time (Brace Yourselves)
Here it comes. My controversial statement. Deep breaths, everyone.
I think the Season 5 dub is actually *good*!
Gasp! Clutch your pearls! I know! But hear me out! The voice acting is solid. The script is well-translated. And it lets me multitask. (Like folding laundry. Okay, fine, like scrolling through memes.)
I can enjoy the show without constantly focusing on the subtitles.
What's Your Verdict?
Ultimately, it's all about preference. Some people will always prefer subs. Some people will always prefer dubs. And that's okay!
Let's appreciate the hard work that goes into both versions. Both the subtitles and voice acting of the show are outstanding.
So, have you watched the Season 5 Episode 1 dub yet? What did you think? Let me know in the comments! (But be nice. Remember the Plus Ultra spirit!) Just tell me your impressions.
Did it live up to your expectations? Did it make you laugh? Did it make you cry? Did it make you question all your life choices?
Because sometimes, that's just what My Hero Academia does. Now, back to re-watching the fight scenes!
