Okay, let's talk about O Maidens in Your Savage Season. Or, as I like to call it, "That Anime About Teen Angst...But With More Flowers."
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty. The art style is gorgeous. Those backgrounds? Chef's kiss! But sometimes, I felt like I was watching a botanical garden come to life rather than a group of girls figuring out *themselves*.
My Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves!)
Ready for it? I think some of the drama was a *tad* overblown. I mean, yeah, being a teenager is tough. Discovering your sexuality is hard.
But the level of existential dread some of these girls were experiencing? It felt like they were auditioning for a Shakespearean tragedy, not a after-school club.
The Virginity Talk: Let's Be Real
The whole virginity thing? So much focus! I get it, it's a big deal for some. But the show made it seem like it was the only thing on these girls' minds.
Did they ever just, like, grab a pizza and watch a movie? Or gossip about cute boys without analyzing the symbolism of each glance?
Maybe I'm just old and jaded. Perhaps I forgot what it was like to be that age. Nah, probably not. I'm still pretty awkward.
The Characters: Quirky or Just Plain Weird?
Now, the characters. Some were relatable. Some were... definitely characters. I mean, Kazusa? Sweet girl. But her obsession with Izumi Norimoto? Borderline concerning.
And Momoko. I liked her deadpan humor. She felt like the one sane person in a world of dramatic teenagers.
Then there's Rika. Bless her heart. So much inner turmoil! Needed a hug and a therapist, stat!
Speaking of Rika, her relationship with her teacher always rubbed me the wrong way. Was it supposed to be romantic? More like incredibly awkward.
The Ending: Did It Deliver?
The ending? Fine. Not amazing. Not terrible. Just... fine. I was hoping for something more impactful.
Maybe a flash-forward to see where these girls ended up. Did they all find love? Did they conquer their fears? We may never know.
Instead, we got a somewhat ambiguous conclusion. A "life goes on" type of thing. Which, I guess, is realistic. But come on! Give us some closure!
In Conclusion: Is It Worth Watching?
Despite my gripes, I wouldn't say *O Maidens* is a bad show. It's visually stunning. It deals with some important themes. Plus Sonezaki is there and she is super cool.
But be prepared for some over-the-top drama. And maybe a few cringe-worthy moments. You have been warned!
So, go ahead. Watch it. Form your own opinions. And then tell me if I'm totally wrong. I'm open to being convinced. Just don't expect me to suddenly think teenage angst is the most compelling thing ever. It isn't.
P.S. Still think those flower petals were a bit much. Just saying.
