Raq's World, We're Just Living In It (And Slightly Terrified)
Okay, let's talk Raising Kanan. Specifically, episode 9 of season 1. Am I the only one who watched it and thought, "Raq is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers… or maybe even Go Fish?"
Seriously, the woman is ice cold. And I'm not talking about her bling. It's her decision-making. Brutal, but effective? I guess that's the question.
Jukebox Got Played (And We Felt Bad)
Poor Jukebox. She's just trying to find her place. And then *BAM!* Raq throws her for a loop. It's harsh, right?
I know, I know, Raq's protecting her family. But still! My unpopular opinion? Jukebox deserved better in that moment.
And can we talk about Marvin? Dude's trying… bless his heart. He’s like a bull in a china shop, but a lovable one, maybe?
Lou-Lou: Is He the Smartest One of the Bunch?
Lou-Lou. He's quietly observing everything. Almost like he sees the train wreck coming before anyone else. He's either the smartest or the most checked-out.
I'm leaning towards smartest. He is the most calm and calculating one. Maybe he should run things. What do you think?
The Symphony of Betrayal
The whole episode felt like a slow burn, didn't it? All these little betrayals adding up. Each one more dramatic than the last.
Raq betraying Jukebox. Scrappy being Scrappy. It's a whole betrayal buffet!
And speaking of Scrappy… that guy needs a hobby. Besides, you know, being a menace.
Kanan: Still Figuring Things Out (Poor Kid)
Let's be real, Kanan is just along for the ride. He's a kid trying to navigate a very adult world. A world ruled by his *powerhouse* of a mother, Raq.
You almost feel sorry for him. Almost. Until he's doing something shady at Raq's command.
He is like a pawn on her chessboard, and it is tough to watch at times.
The Unpopular Opinion Corner: Raq Ain't All Bad (Okay, Maybe a Little)
Okay, here’s my really unpopular opinion. Is Raq evil? I don’t think so. Calculated? Absolutely. Ruthless? For sure. But evil? Maybe not.
She's doing what she thinks is necessary to survive. In her world, that means making some tough choices. And maybe some morally questionable ones.
But come on, she also clearly loves Kanan. And wants to protect her family. Even if her methods are, shall we say, a bit extreme.
Plus, she has great style. You can’t deny that. The wardrobe alone is worth tuning in for. Especially the fur coats!
Final Thoughts: More Questions Than Answers
Episode 9 left us with so many questions. What’s going to happen to Jukebox? Will Kanan ever figure out his place in all of this? And most importantly, will Raq ever crack a smile?
I'm already counting down the days until the next episode. And mentally preparing myself for more Raq-fueled chaos. Because let's face it, that's what we're all here for.
What was your favorite moment from Raising Kanan season 1 episode 9? Let me know!
