Queen's Back, Baby! (Or Is She?)
Alright, alright, alright. Queen of the South Season 5, Episode 1 is finally here! Did it blow my mind? Well… that's complicated.
Let's be honest. I had high hopes. Like, "Teresa Mendoza takes over the world while wearing killer outfits" kind of high.
A Slow Burn Start?
The premiere felt… slow. A bit like watching paint dry. I know, I know, building suspense is important. But I needed a little more bang for my buck.
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm impatient. But where's the action?! I was expecting explosions, betrayals, and at least one sassy one-liner.
Instead, we got simmering tensions. And lots of meaningful glances. Fine, fine. I get it. Character development. But still!
Pote's Wisdom and Kelly Anne's… Choices
Okay, Pote. You're still the best. Your gruff wisdom is always appreciated. Especially when everyone else is making questionable decisions.
Speaking of questionable decisions… Kelly Anne, honey, what are you doing? Seriously. Someone needs to stage an intervention.
She's like a walking, talking, anxiety-inducing plot device. Is she trustworthy? Is she not? My head hurts.
James Being James
And then there's James. Ever the mysterious and brooding protector. He's always lurking in the shadows. Which, let's face it, is kind of his thing.
Is he Team Teresa? Is he playing his own game? Honestly, who knows? But he looks good doing it, so I’m not complaining too much.
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Okay, here comes the controversial part. I wasn't completely hooked. There I said it! I expect gasps of outrage.
Don't get me wrong. I still love Queen of the South. I'm just saying, the premiere didn't exactly leave me breathless.
Maybe I'm holding it to too high a standard. Or maybe my expectations were through the roof. But it's my opinion!
The Promise of What's to Come
But hey, it's only one episode. There's plenty of time for things to heat up. And I have a feeling they will.
The seeds of conflict are definitely planted. With Teresa expanding her empire. Plus, there's a new baddie in town, right?
I'm hoping for more of Teresa Mendoza being a boss. Because let’s face it, that’s why we’re all here.
Final Thoughts (For Now)
So, overall? A decent start. Not amazing. But not terrible. More like... promising potential. Like a good bottle of wine that needs to breathe.
I'm sticking around. I need to see what happens. Mostly because I’m invested in these characters and their messy, complicated lives.
And because I secretly hope Teresa gets a new, even more fabulous wardrobe. Priorities, people!
Will Teresa rise to new heights? Will Kelly Anne finally make a smart decision? Will James ever crack a smile? Only time will tell.
Until next week, my fellow Queen of the South addicts! Let’s hope things get a little more… queenly.
