Okay, people, let's talk Rick and Morty. Specifically, Season 2 Episode 8: "Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate."
Everyone loves it, right? But I'm here to whisper a potentially controversial opinion. Prepare yourselves!
Is "Interdimensional Cable 2" Overrated?
I said it! I know, I know. Blasphemy! Heresy! But hear me out.
Don't get me wrong. It's funny. The random, absurd commercials are brilliant.
The Hype is Real... Mostly
Who can forget "Ants in My Eyes Johnson"? A classic! Or the Gazorpazorpfield sketch? Genius!
But, and this is a big but, does it hold up as well as the first Interdimensional Cable? I'm not so sure.
Maybe it's just me. Perhaps my funny bone was tired that day. But something felt...missing.
Let’s dive a bit more into some of the things that felt off.
Morty's Character Development Gets Real
The B-plot, with Jerry potentially donating his penis, is... uncomfortable. But I think it’s actually the strongest part of the episode!
It allows for some real character growth for Morty. He has to confront some pretty heavy stuff.
He literally convinces Jerry not to die for him! I mean, that’s progress, right?
But did it overshadow the rest of the episode? Maybe! Some viewers might like it, while others might see it as a disturbing distraction.
Why I'm Team "IC1" (Interdimensional Cable 1)
The first Interdimensional Cable felt fresher. More surprising.
The initial shock of the bizarre programming was unparalleled. We weren't expecting any of it!
By the second go-around, we knew what to expect. The element of surprise was gone.
And maybe, just maybe, some of the improvised bits weren’t as inspired the second time. Ouch!
The Reddit Verdict (Probably Against Me)
I know what you're thinking: "This guy's crazy! Check out the Reddit threads! Everyone loves it!"
And you’re probably right. Rick and Morty's subreddit is probably filled with praise for this episode.
I'm bracing myself for the backlash. But it's okay to have unpopular opinions, right?
"To live is to risk it all; otherwise you're just an inert chunk of randomly assembled molecules drifting wherever the universe blows you." - Rick Sanchez (kinda relevant here).
Final Thoughts (Don't Hate Me!)
Look, "Interdimensional Cable 2" is still a good episode. It has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
But for me, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor. And that's okay!
It's all subjective, isn't it? What do you guys think?
Am I completely wrong? Or is there anyone else out there who feels the same way? Let me know!
Maybe we can start a support group for "IC2" skeptics. We can call it "The Schwifty Few".
And remember, Wubba Lubba Dub-Dub! (Even if I didn't love this episode as much as everyone else.)
