Okay, Let's Talk *That* Rick and Morty Finale...
Season 5 of Rick and Morty. It was... a season. Some loved it, some hated it. And then there was the finale, "Rickmurai Jack," or as I like to call it, "The One Where Everything Exploded."
Seriously, though, did anyone else feel like they crammed, like, three episodes into one? My brain needed a vacation after watching it.
All the Feels... or Lack Thereof?
We got some *lore*. Big, chunky lore. About Rick, Morty, and the Central Finite Curve. And Evil Morty, of course. He's always stirring the pot.
But was it good lore? That's the million-Shmeckle question. I have my opinions, of course.
Don't get me wrong, Evil Morty's plan was pretty epic. Blowing up the Central Finite Curve? Talk about a mic drop!
But something about it felt... rushed? Like they needed to wrap everything up in a shiny, slightly-too-tight package.
Unpopular Opinion Time! (Brace Yourselves)
Here's where I might lose some of you. I think the whole "Evil Morty finally escapes" thing... wasn't that satisfying.
I know, I know! Hear me out. We've been building to this for seasons. His motives were always kinda vague. Was it worth the wait?
And the whole backstory montage? It felt a little too...emotional for Rick and Morty. I come for the cynicism, people! The existential dread wrapped in fart jokes!
Rick's Backstory: Too Much, Too Soon?
Speaking of backstories, Rick's origin story. Holy moly. Losing his wife and daughter? That's heavy stuff, man.
Maybe it's just me, but I always liked the *mystery* surrounding Rick. He's a genius who's seen too much. Period.
Giving him a tragic backstory makes him... relatable? And maybe Rick shouldn't be relatable. Maybe he should just be a gloriously flawed jerk.
It gave us context, sure. But did we need that context? Hmmm...
The Good Stuff (Because It Wasn't *All* Bad)
Okay, okay, I'm being harsh. The episode definitely had its moments. The animation was gorgeous, as always. That final portal looked spectacular.
And the humor? Still there! Even amidst all the heavy emotional stuff. I did actually laugh. Multiple times.
Plus, we got to see more of the Citadel. And Evil Morty's scheme was undeniably audacious. You gotta give him credit for ambition.
So, Was It a Good Finale?
Ultimately, I'm torn. "Rickmurai Jack" was ambitious, visually stunning, and crammed with lore. But it also felt rushed, a little too sentimental, and maybe a bit underwhelming in its execution.
Did it change the landscape of the show forever? Absolutely. Is that a good thing? I'm still not entirely sure.
Maybe I'm just being a grumpy Rick and Morty fan. Maybe I'm just resistant to change. Or maybe, just maybe, Season 5's finale was a little bit messy.
What do you think? Am I completely wrong? Let me know in the comments. And remember, Wubba Lubba Dub Dub! (Even if I'm feeling a little "blah" about it right now.)
