Okay, let's talk Scooby Doo and Guess Who? Season 2. It's here. It's got celebrities. It's got… well, Scooby Doo being Scooby Doo.
But am I the only one who thinks some of these guest stars are a little... random? Like, did anyone *really* need to see Scooby and the gang team up with, say, a competitive eater? (No offense to competitive eaters!).
The Good Stuff
Don't get me wrong, there are some genuinely fun episodes. The ones where the celeb actually seems to be having a good time? Those are gold!
I always enjoy the Scooby Doo formula. The silly chase scenes are a blast. Fred still loves traps (that never work). Velma's always solving puzzles. Classic.
And let's be honest, Frank Welker will always be the definitive Scooby Doo voice. No argument.
The Mystery Machine Needs Gas... and Maybe Better Guests?
But sometimes, the guest stars feel...forced. Like they just needed to fill a quota. Does the story even need them?
It’s like the writers were just pulling names out of a hat. "Okay, we need a celebrity! Uh...a mime! Yes! A spooky mime!"
And sometimes the celebrity voices are just… distracting. You're so busy thinking, "Wait, is that really *that* person?" that you forget about the actual mystery.
Am I alone in thinking some of the older *Scooby Doo* celebrity crossovers were better? Remember the Harlem Globetrotters episodes? Those were legendary! They blended seamlessly.
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Okay, here it comes. My unpopular opinion: I think *Scooby Doo and Guess Who?* focuses too much on the "Guess Who?" and not enough on the "Scooby Doo."
Hear me out! I love a good cameo. But when the celebrity overshadows the mystery, that’s a problem. We want to see Scooby and Shaggy being scared. We want to see Daphne getting kidnapped (sorry, Daphne!).
I think they focus more on celebrity appeal than what the original fan base wants to see.
I also think some of the mysteries are...lacking. Are they phoned in?
Sometimes, the "monster" is so obviously just a dude in a mask, it's insulting. Where's the suspense? The genuine feeling of "maybe this *is* a real ghost?!"
The original shows, even with their low budgets, managed to create a sense of unease. Remember the creepy miner 49er? Or the ghostly woman in the swamp?
Final Thoughts (and Maybe Some Suggestions)
Look, I still watch Scooby Doo and Guess Who? Season 2. I'm a lifelong Scooby Doo fan. I can't help it.
But I can't help but feel like it could be better. More focus on the core characters. Better mysteries. And maybe, just maybe, celebrities who actually fit the Scooby Doo vibe.
Maybe a horror movie director? A magician? Someone who at least knows how to run from a cardboard cutout monster?
