Okay, let's talk Shield Hero Season 2. We all waited, right? I mean, Season 1 was a whirlwind. Then came the follow-up...
And... well. It happened.
The Turtle That Launched a Thousand Takes
The Spirit Tortoise. Big, slow, and apparently, really divisive. It seems like everyone had an opinion about this arc. Mine? *deep breath*
I... didn't hate it. There, I said it!
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Look, I get it. The pacing was a little... glacial. Get it? Turtle joke! But seriously, things dragged at times.
But tell me you didn't crack a smile when Raphtalia was doing her best to keep it together. Or when Filo was, well, being Filo. These characters are gold!
And honestly, I found the whole Spirit Tortoise lore kind of interesting. A giant, ancient being causing problems? Classic fantasy stuff. Why are we so hard on it?
Maybe it's because Season 1 set the bar so high. We were expecting epic battles and political intrigue. Instead, we got a giant turtle and some... interesting villains.
Those Villains Though...
Okay, let's be real. The villains in Season 2 were... a choice. Forgettable is a word comes to mind for a bunch of us.
They lacked the sheer, unadulterated evil of Malty from Season 1. She was awful, but at least you loved to hate her! These guys were just… there.
I wanted a villain I could truly despise. Someone to rival Malty in the "reasons to yell at your TV" department. Sadly, I was let down.
But hey, at least the heroes are still awesome, right?
The Naofumi Effect
Our main man, Naofumi, is still the cynical, pragmatic hero we know and love. He's still trying to protect everyone while secretly wanting to just be left alone.
Raphtalia continues to be the best girl, and Filo is still the world's most adorable murder bird. Their dynamic is what carries the show.
Even when the plot gets a little wonky, watching them interact is always a treat. They make it worth watching. They are what makes this show so endearing.
And let's not forget the new additions. Rishia, while awkward, brings a fresh dynamic. She becomes a valuable and relatable character.
So, Was It *That* Bad?
Probably not as bad as everyone says. It had flaws, sure. But it also had moments of genuine heart and humor.
Maybe my expectations were lower. Maybe I just really love these characters. Whatever the reason, I enjoyed it for what it was.
Look, Season 2 wasn't perfect. Far from it. But it's Shield Hero! We still have the same core characters.
I'm still invested in Naofumi's journey. I'm still rooting for him and his party. And that's enough for me.
So, bring on Season 3! Let's see what other adventures await our favorite shield-wielding hero.
Just please, no more giant turtles for a while.
