Chaos? More Like Vocal Harmony (Mostly)!
Let's talk about Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Specifically, the voice actors. We all know the game is... unique. But what about the voices bringing these wild characters to life?
I'm going to say something controversial. Ready? Some of the voice acting is actually… pretty good. Maybe even too good for the game's overall vibe!
Jack Garland: The Growl We Love (or Love to Hate)
Jack Garland. He just wants to kill Chaos. Garland's voice actor, Jack Coleman, brings a serious intensity. A lot of yelling happens. Naturally.
Some say it's over the top. I say it's perfectly suited to a man fueled by pure, unadulterated rage. It's so bad, it's good, right?
Is his voice acting nuanced? Probably not. Is it memorable? Absolutely. He nails the angsty warrior vibe.
Ash & Jed: The Bro Crew
These two are Jack's ride-or-die bros. They follow him through thick and thin. Their voice actors give them a solid, dependable feel.
They are the reasonable(ish) counterpoints to Jack's chaos-obsessed outbursts. Providing a much-needed balance, even if their dialogue is sometimes… questionable.
They're voiced by Aleks Le and Aaron Phillips, respectively. They embody the "bro" archetype perfectly. No complaints here.
Neon: The... Well, Neon
Neon is… Neon. Her character is divisive. Her voice acting matches that perfectly.
Voiced by Brianna Knickerbocker, Neon is energetic. She's also naive. Sometimes, gratingly so.
Whether you love or hate Neon, her voice acting is definitely a choice. A bold choice!
The Villains: Actually Kind of Great?
Okay, unpopular opinion time. The villains in Stranger of Paradise? They're voiced really well. Especially Chaos himself.
There's a certain theatricality to them. They embrace the over-the-top nature of the game. They chew the scenery with gusto.
I might be alone on this, but I think the villain voice acting is a highlight. They understand the assignment. Embrace the cheese!
The "I Just Want To Kill Chaos!" Chorus
Let's be honest. A lot of the dialogue in the game is... repetitive. How many times can you hear "I just want to kill Chaos!"?
The voice actors do their best with the script. They try to inject emotion into the same lines over and over. It's a tough job.
But hey, at least they deliver those lines with conviction. Even if we're rolling our eyes internally.
Overall: A Mixed Bag, But Memorable
So, is the voice acting in Stranger of Paradise perfect? No. Is it consistently good? Also no.
But is it memorable? Absolutely. It perfectly captures the strange, chaotic energy of the game. It’s part of the charm.
Ultimately, the voice actors did their best with what they had. They gave us performances that are hard to forget. For better or worse!
