Okay, let's talk The Good Doctor, specifically Season 1, Episode 8, "Apple." I know, I know, it's been a minute. But some things are just too good (or…interesting) to forget!
The Core Crew: We Love 'Em (Mostly)
First up, we've got Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy. Can we all agree he's the heart of the show? His portrayal is just so uniquely him.
Then there's Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne. I've always liked Claire. She's a good friend and a great doctor. But am I the only one who thinks her storylines sometimes felt a *little*… predictable?
And let's not forget Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez. The man was intense! Was he always so grumpy? I think he had a soft spot deep down.
Of course, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman is iconic. He's the mentor everyone wishes they had. His relationship with Shaun is one of the best things about the whole series.
The "Apple" Episode Guest Stars: Some Standouts, Some...Not So Much
This episode introduces some interesting new faces. We have patients who are only there for the episode, and who will then vanish into the TV blackhole never to be seen again.
There was this patient who came in and Dr. Murphy suspected that the patient's wife had something to do with their sickness! Now the storyline was certainly interesting.
Now, here's where I might lose some of you. Remember the patient's wife? I wasn't totally sold. The acting felt a tad…forced at times.
But hey, maybe it was just me! It could have been the script, maybe the directing, or maybe my room's lightning, but I wasn't impressed.
Unpopular Opinion Time: A Little Extra Spice
Alright, brace yourselves. I've got a slightly controversial opinion. I think some of the early season guest stars were a bit…underwhelming. Not bad, just…forgettable.
Don't get me wrong, the main cast carries the show. And they do a phenomenal job. But sometimes, the guest characters felt like they were just there to move the plot along. Nothing special.
Anyone else feel that way? Or am I just being overly critical?
Maybe I'm being too harsh. It's a medical drama! It's supposed to be dramatic! I guess I just crave a little more character depth from everyone involved.
The emotional weight of the series is what makes this show great. The show knows that no amount of flashy lights and fancy editing can save a bad plot. This show relies on its acting, and it delivers.
Overall, "Apple" is a solid episode. But for me, the guest cast wasn't the strongest point.
"Sometimes, the apple falls a little flat,"I suppose.
But hey, even with a few minor casting quibbles, The Good Doctor still rocks. I'm hooked, and I'm already queuing up the next episode!
What are your thoughts on the cast of Season 1, Episode 8? Let me know! Did anyone stand out for you, either positively or negatively? I'm curious to hear what you think!
And seriously, where do they find those hospital sets? They're so…sterile yet strangely comforting. Now that's good set design!
