Oh. My. Goodness. Aethelflaed's Secret and Uhtred's... Dilemma?
Okay, folks, let's dive into *The Last Kingdom* Season 5, Episode 7. I don't know about you, but I was practically glued to the screen! We're knee-deep in political intrigue and personal drama, and it's all delightfully messy.
The big reveal? Aethelflaed, the Lady of Mercia, is hiding a massive secret. We discover that Aethelflaed is ill and not getting better.
Secrets and Lies (and Maybe a Little Bit of Love?)
It’s heartbreaking, really. She’s trying to hold everything together, protect her kingdom, and maintain this tough exterior while secretly battling a serious illness. Aethelstan is coming of age, can he step up?
And then there’s Uhtred. He’s still navigating the treacherous waters of divided loyalties. He's trying to forge a unified England while simultaneously trying to keep everyone he cares about from getting killed.
Speaking of Uhtred's loyalties, his feelings for Aethelflaed are...complicated. He’s clearly still deeply in love with her, but their paths are constantly diverging, thanks to their responsibilities. Will they ever get their happily ever after?
Brida's Back (and Still Super Angry)
If you thought Brida was going to mellow out in Season 5, you were sorely mistaken. This woman is a force of nature, fueled by rage and a thirst for revenge.
Honestly, at this point, she’s bordering on supervillain status. She is the anti-hero of the show. No one has ever been kind to Brida so she is forever at war with the world.
Sibling Rivalry Reaches a Fever Pitch
And let's not forget about the simmering tension between Edward and Aethelflaed. They’re siblings, yes, but they're also rulers with competing interests. This episode throws that conflict into sharp relief.
They both want what's best for their people, but their ideas of "best" are vastly different. This family feud is seriously threatening the stability of England.
It feels like they’re constantly on the verge of a full-blown war with each other. I just want them to hug it out!
The Humorous Highlights (Because We Need 'Em)
Amidst all the doom and gloom, there are moments of levity. Finan’s witty remarks and Sihtric’s dry observations provide a welcome dose of humor.
These two are the comic relief we didn't know we desperately needed. They can always be counted on to lighten the mood with some sarcastic banter.
I’m especially enjoying seeing them navigate their growing roles within Uhtred's inner circle. They've come a long way from their days as slaves.
The Last Kingdom is a show that knows how to balance the serious with the lighthearted. It is an example of excellent TV.
A Cliffhanger That Leaves You Gasping
And, of course, the episode ends on a major cliffhanger. It leaves you desperate for the next episode. Seriously, how are we supposed to wait?
Let's just say, alliances are tested, betrayals are brewing, and the fate of England hangs precariously in the balance. I have a feeling things are about to get even more intense in the coming episodes.
Get ready for the next one! It is going to be amazing!
